Cat Captain is a Mythic unit added to Universal Tower Defense Z in Update 4.0. It draws on Yoruichi Shihouin, the former captain of the 2nd Division in Bleach, and keeps her feline form and speed-based fighting style. You pull it from the summon banners, then evolve it into Neko Captain (Lightning) to unlock its full passive kit.

Quick answer: Summon Cat Captain from the Basic Banner or Selection Banner at 50 Gems per pull, then evolve it into Neko Captain (Lightning) using 4 Universal Fragments, 6 Frozen Fragments, 12 Sky Fragments, 1 Black Cat Spirit, and 20,000 Gold.

How to get Cat Captain in Universal Tower Defense Z

Cat Captain appears in two places, the Basic Banner and the Selection Banner. Each summon costs 50 Gems, and Gems build up as you clear Acts and Chapters or redeem active codes. Both banners can produce the unit, but they work differently.

On the Basic Banner, the featured Mythic characters rotate every hour. The unit sitting in the center slot carries the highest pull rate, so spend your Gems while Cat Captain occupies that middle position. On the Selection Banner, you set your priority character first, so pick Cat Captain as the featured unit before you start summoning.

A pity system guarantees a Mythic unit after 400 summons. That guarantee is not tied to Cat Captain specifically, so a long streak can still land a different Mythic instead.

Tip: There is a shortcut that skips the banners entirely. The code WeLoveYoruichi! hands over the Yoruichi unit directly, along with its evolution items, 250 Trait Rerolls, 6 Mythic Etherealization Shards, and 5 Summer Crates. It requires level 15 or higher and, like all codes, expires eventually, so redeem it early through the in-game Codes menu.

Evolving Cat Captain into Neko Captain (Lightning)

The base unit unlocks its strongest passives only after evolution. Open the Evolutions menu, select Cat Captain, and once every material is in your inventory, press the “Evolve!” button at the bottom of the screen to turn it into Neko Captain (Lightning).

The three Fragment types drop from clearing Challenges and specific Acts in the Legend Stage, and you can also buy them from the Merchant if you fall short. The Black Cat Spirit is the harder piece. It appears in the Reaper City Raid Shop for 600 Soul Badges and can also drop from Act 3 of the Reaper City Raid.

You know the evolution worked when the unit’s name changes to Neko Captain (Lightning) in your inventory and its Lightning element and new passives become active on the field.

Neko Captain (Lightning) passives

Neko Captain (Lightning) runs two attack states. Landing hits, assists, and takedowns fills a “Cat Spirit” meter, and once it is full the unit transforms for 20 seconds and switches to its second attack. Outside of that window it fights in its first form, which is built to punish Hyperarmored enemies.

Lightning Feline

  • Hits, assists, and takedowns build the Cat Spirit meter.
  • A full meter transforms the unit for 20 seconds and enables Attack 2.
  • Attacks chain lightning for 35% Damage.
  • One random chained enemy takes 175% Damage instead.

Hand on Paw

  • While not transformed (Attack 1), the unit deals +65% Hyper Armor Damage.
  • Each hit on the same enemy lowers the unit’s SPA by 3%, stacking up to 15%.

Cat and Mouse

  • When an enemy in range is Stunned, the unit performs a Follow-Up Attack for 125% Damage and applies Slow.
  • When attacking an enemy already under Slow, the unit applies Stun.

The two crowd-control passives loop together. A stunned target triggers the Slow follow-up, and a slowed target then gets stunned again, so the unit can keep single-target pressure locked while its Hyper Armor bonus chews through armored enemies.

Stats, placement, and build

Neko Captain (Lightning) costs 1,500 Yen to place on the field. Its damage scales sharply once you max it during a run, and cooldown reduction from a support unit pushes its output much higher.

StatLevel 70 (with relics)Maxed on field
Damage1.4K25K
Cooldown4.76s3.04s
Range34.658.8
DPS2958.2K

Because the unit rewards repeated hits on a single target, gear that raises Crit Damage, Crit Rate, and Buff Potency works well, and the Shadow Reaper raid set fits that profile across the Top, Bottom, and Accessory slots. Pairing it with a cooldown support such as Prodigy Mage (Apprentice) matters even more. The Party’s Tactician buff grants a -30% Cooldown effect, which drops Neko Captain’s attack cooldown from around 3.04 seconds to roughly 1.69 seconds, letting it stack the SPA reduction and Cat Spirit meter far faster.

Position it where it can keep striking the same enemies along a bend or a long straight path, back it with a cooldown buffer, and let the Stun-and-Slow loop hold armored waves while the lightning chains clear the rest.
