The Item Retrieval Machine is a Storage technology in Palworld that lets you pull items out of every chest at a base without walking to each one. It was added in the Feybreak update and sits high in the technology tree, so it becomes available only after you have progressed well into the mid-to-late game.
Quick answer: Reach Level 49, spend 5 Technology Points to unlock it, then craft it with 100 Pal Metal Ingot, 30 Paldium Fragment, and 4 Bio Battery. Place it at your base and interact with it to browse and take items from all connected chests.

What the Item Retrieval Machine does
The machine gives you a single access point for the contents of all chests placed at the same base. Instead of opening each storage container to find what you need, you open the machine and see everything stored across your base’s chests in one interface. This cuts down the time spent hunting for materials before crafting or heading out.
It is a base structure with 4000 HP and a defense value of 6, and it belongs to the base camp where you build it. Its reach covers chests at that base, so items shared through it stay tied to the location.

You unlock the recipe from the technology tree at Level 49 for 5 Technology Points. After it is unlocked, you build it from the radial build menu using the materials below.
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Category | Storage |
| Required Level | 49 |
| Technology Points | 5 |
| Pal Metal Ingot | 100 |
| Paldium Fragment | 30 |
| Bio Battery | 4 |
Pal Metal Ingot is the heaviest cost here, so keep an ore-processing setup running if you are short. Bio Battery is produced from a base structure that uses Pals as a power source, and Paldium Fragment comes from mining Paldium nodes or breaking blue crystal deposits.

How to build and use it
You know it worked when the machine’s menu lists items that are physically stored inside your chests rather than in the machine itself. If nothing shows up, confirm the chests are placed within the same base and that they actually contain items.

Storage it cannot access
The machine reaches standard chests, but it does not pull from every container type. Food-specific storage and child chests are excluded, so anything stored in those still needs to be accessed directly.
- Feed Box
- Cold Food Box
- Child Chest
Note: keep your consumable food in the Feed Box or a Cold Food Box for spoilage control, and remember you will still need to open those containers by hand.
Where it fits among Palworld storage
The Item Retrieval Machine is a convenience layer rather than a container, so it works best once you already have a spread of chests set up. Compared with other late storage unlocks, it trades raw slots for quick access across your whole base.
| Storage | Level | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Guild Chest | 41 | Shares items across all bases through subspace |
| Item Retrieval Machine | 49 | Access items from all chests at one base |
| Advanced Chest | 59 | High-capacity, sturdy storage container |
If you run several chests sorted by item type, the machine turns that whole setup into a single searchable list, which is where it pays off most during heavy crafting sessions.
