It stops rare World Tree materials from vanishing the moment you get close, which is the single biggest blocker to mining Mythical Wood, Paloxite, and Radiant Gems.
Quick answer: Defeat Panthalus to unlock the World Tree biome, then catch high-level Pals there or open Large Ominous Eggs found in the area. Both are the only reliable ways to obtain a Pal that already carries a World Tree passive.
What World Tree passives do and why they matter
Each World Tree passive pairs a very large positive stat with a heavy penalty. You trade something real for the boost, so these traits reward focused builds rather than balanced ones. A Pal built for attack gives up defense, a work specialist loses sanity faster, and so on.
The standout effect is the anti-vanish rule. Rare World Tree resources such as Mythical Wood, Paloxite, and Radiant Gems normally disappear as you walk toward them. Keeping a Pal with the correct World Tree passive in your active party stops that from happening. The only other way to prevent it is to drink World Tree Holy Water before you gather.
How to get World Tree passives
Note: There is no shortcut through the Pal Surgery Table. Unlike ordinary passives, World Tree traits cannot be transferred with Surgery Chips, so grafting them onto a favorite Pal is not possible.

How to confirm it worked
Check the passive list on the Pal’s status screen after catching it or hatching an egg. The trait name will read as one of the seven above. To verify the anti-vanish effect in the field, put a Pal with Twin-Edged Holy Blade or Sanctified Meat Shield in your active party and walk up to a Mythical Wood, Paloxite, or Radiant Gem node. If the node stays put instead of fading out, the passive is working.
If nodes still vanish, the most common reasons are a Pal without the correct trait, the trait-holder sitting in storage rather than your party, or no World Tree Holy Water active as a substitute. Pals caught outside the World Tree biome will not roll these passives, so returning to catch or hatch inside the region is the fix.
The fastest path to a stable World Tree mining setup is to clear Panthalus, farm the biome for high-level catches and Large Ominous Eggs, and hold onto the first Pal you find with an anti-vanish trait. Once that Pal rides in your party, the endgame resources you need for the best gear stop disappearing the moment you reach for them.
