Your gun, bow, or melee weapon in Palworld normally deals Neutral damage, which is the weakest option against most tough enemies. A handful of Pals fix that. Keep one of them as your active Pal, and your personal attacks take on that Pal’s element instead, letting you exploit the same weaknesses a boss would suffer from an elemental attack.
Quick answer: Summon or mount a Pal with an element-changing Partner Skill (such as Anubis for Ground, Azurobe for Water, or Frostallion for Ice), and every hit you land is converted to that element for as long as the Pal is active. Most of these skills also raise your Attack while running.

How element swapping works
Element swapping, sometimes called element infusion, is a Partner Skill effect tied to specific Pals. It comes in two forms. Some Pals apply the effect while you ride them, so the change only lasts as long as you stay mounted. Others apply it as soon as they are out fighting alongside you, without any mount required.
The infusion covers all of your direct damage, including firearm rounds and weapon strikes. That matters because Palworld runs a rock-paper-scissors damage system where hitting a Pal with the element it is weak to deals 50% more damage. Neutral has no strengths at all, so converting your shots to Ice against a Dragon boss, or to Water against a Fire boss, is a large, reliable damage increase.
Note: No Pal can convert your attacks to Neutral, since Neutral is already the default element for your character.

The Attack boost that comes with it
Most of these Partner Skills raise your Attack on top of changing your element, and the size of that boost depends on the Pal type. The bonus scales up as you level the Partner Skill to its maximum.
| Pal type | Attack boost at max |
|---|---|
| Non-mount fighter (active in battle) | 10% |
| Mount | 20% |
| Frostallion and Frostallion Noct | 40% |
Both Frostallion variants stand out for giving the biggest attack increase in the game while also infusing your shots. Verdash is the one clear exception to the damage pattern. It changes your element to Grass but its main draw is a movement speed boost rather than raw power.
Pick the element by matching the boss weakness
The whole point of infusing your weapon is to line it up against what the enemy fears. Use the chart below to choose which Pal to bring before a fight.
| Enemy element | Infuse your attacks with |
|---|---|
| Grass | Fire |
| Ice | Fire |
| Water | Electric |
| Electric | Ground |
| Ground | Grass |
| Fire | Water |
| Dragon | Ice |
| Dark | Dragon |
| Neutral | Dark |
A common example: mounting Beakon converts your attacks to Electric, which shreds Water bosses like Jormuntide. Just watch the reverse case. Firing a rocket launcher from a Dark mount such as Helzephyr at a Dark-resistant target will feel painfully slow, so a plain Neutral general-purpose mount is often better when the enemy resists your infused element.
How to confirm the swap is active
You will know the infusion is working when your damage numbers jump against a weak target and the hit registers as super effective. For mount-based skills the element only holds while you are actually riding, so dismounting reverts your attacks to Neutral. For fighter-type Pals such as Anubis, Nox, Wixen, Icelyn, and Elgrove, the effect stays up as long as that Pal is your out-in-battle companion, no mount needed.
Choosing the right infuser for each encounter is the single biggest damage swing you can make without upgrading gear, so it is worth keeping a small stable of these Pals covering Fire, Water, Electric, Ice, Dragon, and Dark for whatever a tower or field boss throws at you.
