Anime Expeditions: Best Sovereign (Djinn) Sinbad Build

The exact trait, equipment, and passive setup that turns the Secret-rarity Sinbad unit into a boss shredder.

The exact trait, equipment, and passive setup that turns the Secret-rarity Sinbad unit into a boss shredder.

Sovereign (Djinn) is the evolved form of the Secret-rarity Sinbad unit in Anime Expeditions, and it sits in an unusual spot for a Secret. It costs only 950 Yen to place, deals Storm-type physical damage, and swaps between two internal modes depending on whether a boss is standing inside its range. Built correctly, it clears waves through lightning chains and then pivots to freeze-locking a boss without any input from you.

Quick answer: Roll the Unbound trait, then equip the Lightning Dagger (unique slot) plus the Warrior Pole, and fill the last slot with the Shinigami Sword for general stages or the Warrior’s Axe for boss stages.

Sovereign (Djinn) unit profile

The unit arrived with the Summer Siege update and is based on Sinbad from Magi: Adventure of Sinbad. In its pre-evolved Sovereign form it offers very little. The evolved Sovereign (Djinn) form is the one worth investing in, since that is where the freeze attacks and chaining lightning strikes appear.

Why Unbound is the trait to chase

Unbound raises damage by 350%, cuts SPA by 5%, and adds 10% range, with the trade-off that the unit is limited to a single placement. Sovereign (Djinn) does not care about that restriction, because its damage comes from one heavily upgraded tower rather than from stacking copies. The 350% multiplier is the single largest contributor to the final damage number in this build.

The roll chance is 0.1%, so expect a long rerolling session. Reaching Unbound has taken roughly 900 rerolls in practice. There is no way to shorten that beyond having the currency ready before you start.

Note: you can equip and play the unit before landing Unbound. The build below works with any trait, it simply does far less damage until the trait lands.

Best equipment setup for Sinbad

Three slots matter here. The unique slot is locked to the Lightning Dagger, the second slot goes to the Warrior Pole, and the third slot changes depending on whether the stage is crowd-heavy or boss-heavy.

EquipmentStats and effect
Lightning Dagger (unique)Djinn’s Judgment: every 7 seconds, calls a Lightning Strike on the strongest enemy in range for 100% of the unit’s damage. The strike chains between 5 enemies at 25% damage each and applies Freeze on every chain.
Warrior Pole+9.46% Physical DMG Dealt, +4.8% Damage. Adds 16% unit damage while Transformed.
Shinigami Sword (general stages)+9.64% Critical Chance, +3.8% Damage. Adds 0.89% damage per enemy in range, capped at 15%.
Warrior’s Axe (boss stages)+9.55% Physical DMG Dealt, -3.8% SPA.

The Shinigami Sword only reaches its cap when enough enemies are inside the range circle, which makes it the correct pick for wave clearing. On stages built around a single large target, that bonus barely triggers, so the Warrior’s Axe and its flat SPA reduction produce more damage per second instead.

How the Djinn passives switch modes

Sovereign (Djinn) runs four passives, and the important one is Djinn Combination. It checks whether a boss is inside the unit’s range and picks a mode automatically. There is no button to press and no manual toggle.

PassiveBehavior
Djinn CombinationNo boss in range activates Lightning Djinn. A boss in range activates Nine Tailed Fox Djinn, and Lightning Djinn stays on.
Lightning DjinnEvery attack creates 5 chains at 25% of current damage each. Chains bounce between enemies. With fewer than 5 enemies they bounce among those present, and against a single enemy all chains land on that target.
Nine Tailed Fox Djinn+50% damage, attacks apply Freeze, and the unit auto-targets the boss. Once Freeze expires the enemy is permanently slowed by 15%, and that slow does not stack.
Djinn’s JudgmentGranted by the Lightning Dagger. Timed Lightning Strike on the strongest enemy in range.

Because Lightning Djinn stays active during boss fights, the unit stacks chain damage on top of the 50% boss-mode bonus rather than trading one for the other. That overlap is where most of the boss damage comes from.

Level 50 stat progression with the full build

The numbers below are for a shiny Sovereign (Djinn) at level 50 carrying the Unbound trait. They show how much of the final output comes from in-match upgrades rather than from the menu screen.

StateDMGSPARNG
No equipment3.04k4s20.6
Max equipment, just placed7,1484s22.4
Max equipment, fully upgraded37,6023.4s34.3

Range grows from 20.6 to 34.3 across those upgrades, which matters more than it looks. A larger circle pulls more enemies into Shinigami Sword’s per-enemy bonus and makes it easier for a boss to enter range and flip the unit into Nine Tailed Fox Djinn mode.

Confirming the build is working

A finished setup is easy to verify in a match. Watch the unit’s attacks against a normal wave and you should see lightning arcing between separate enemies rather than single hits. When a boss walks into range, the unit should stop switching targets and lock onto it, with a frost effect appearing on the boss.

For a practical benchmark, a fully built Sovereign (Djinn) solo-clears King’s Tomb Act 1 on Mastery in about 59 seconds, which makes it a reliable AFK gem farming setup. If your clear time is far longer, check that the Lightning Dagger is actually in the unique slot and that the unit has been upgraded in-match, not just placed.

Sandbox mode is the cleanest place to sanity-check damage. Spawn a boss with 1 million HP alongside a group of regular enemies and you can watch both modes run at once, since the chains keep firing while the boss takes the increased damage.

Common reasons the build underperforms

  • The unit is still in its base Sovereign form. Freeze and lightning chains only exist after evolving to Sovereign (Djinn).
  • The Lightning Dagger is missing, which removes Djinn’s Judgment entirely along with its 7-second strike.
  • Shinigami Sword is equipped on a boss-only stage, where its per-enemy bonus stays near zero.
  • The unit is placed too far from the path, so bosses never enter range and Nine Tailed Fox Djinn never activates.

The build is unusually forgiving once those four things are correct, largely because the mode switching is automatic. Get Unbound, slot the Lightning Dagger and Warrior Pole, swap the third piece to match the stage, and the unit handles the rest of the decision-making on its own.
