Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse – How to Unlock Alucard’s Sword and Shield

The route from the Entrance Corridor to Alucard’s Tower, every blue flame location, and what the Legendary set does.

Alucard’s Sword and Shield is a Legendary, tier 4 weapon in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. It hangs on a bedroom wall in Alucard’s Tower, a hidden district in the upper-right corner of the Main Hall, directly above the Library entrance. No key or boss guards it. Movement abilities gate the climb up, and a seal of blue flames locks the room.

Quick answer: From the Entrance Corridor, take the red doorway over Alucard’s portrait. Make your way up to the Grand Hall, traverse the Bridge of Knowledge, put out the five blue flames, then travel by shrine to the bedroom.

Abilities you need before going to Alucard’s Tower

If you attempt the climb too early, you’ll reach gaps you can’t cross and hooks you can’t grab. Keep going with the main story until Rose has these three movement abilities:

Arcane WhipParis StreetsAbandoned SewersHooks and Luminous Anchors
Aerial RushLibraryObservation TowerMid-air dashes in the Armoury

Double Jump is the one most players are missing. Rose gets it in the Choir after defeating Death. It lets her jump again while she’s in the air.

The Arcane Whip handles everything else on the route. You aim it to latch onto glowing anchors, hooks or enemies. You need it to start the route, to enter the secret passage near the tower, and to reach the last flame.

Aerial Rush pushes Rose forward in mid-air. The Armoury’s vertical spike shafts expect you to chain it with double jumps.

Route to Alucard’s Tower from the Entrance Corridor

Though Alucard’s Tower is high in the Main Hall, enter the route near its base. Head north by way of the Wine Cellar, then the Armoury; continue through the Archives, follow the Path of the Cockroach, and pass through the Dungeon to reach the Grand Hall.

Fast-travel to the Mirror of Life in the Entrance Corridor. Alucard’s portrait is close by, with a red-lit doorway directly above it.
Hit the painting with your whip and get up to the red doorway. Go through it and follow the secret passage into the Wine Cellar.
Climb into the Armoury. Get through its spike-lined vertical shafts with double jumps and air dashes, and use the golden mirrors along the way.
Continue upward into the Archives. Hit the switches on the walls to shift the climbing blocks into a route, then take that route to the exit above.
Go through the Path of the Cockroach to enter the Dungeon. You’ll face crumbling platforms and spikes, along with winged demons and enemies on the ground.
Drop down through the Dungeon’s middle area until you come to the glowing red door for the Grand Hall. Enter through it.
In the Grand Hall, hit the gear on the ceiling several times until the top floor opens. Take the elevator up.
At the top, pull the lever on the left. It opens a shortcut back down for later trips.
Go right and climb until you see a second Alucard portrait with his sword pointing up. Stand under it, jump and grapple the hook above into the secret passage.
Go right over the Bridge of Knowledge, then pass into Alucard’s Tower. A barrier seals off the upper floor, preventing you from climbing farther for now.

To get back to the tower without retracing the entire route, use the Ballrooms’ Mirror of Life. It’s the nearest mirror, and lets you leave and return.

All five blue flame locations around Alucard’s Tower

A seal of five blue flames guards Alucard’s room. A letter left on the tower’s desk gives their meaning: Adrian told his father he’d set blue flames around his chambers to ward off the castle’s evil. Reading the note is optional, but it points to the puzzle’s solution. The flames are in braziers or lanterns, and one weapon blow puts each out. They’re all near the path leading into the tower.

Hidden stair room flames

The route’s upper corridors on the Grand Hall side bring you to a chamber arranged around a symmetrical staircase. A brazier stands on either upper side, and a writing desk sits below each. Since the two halves match, it’s easy to douse one flame and overlook its twin. Make sure you extinguish both before departing.

Bridge of Knowledge flames

Keep going right toward the Bridge of Knowledge. Two flames sit one above the other. The upper one is next to a desk, and the lower one is next to a portrait.

Lower chamber flame under the Bridge of Knowledge

The fifth flame is the only one off the main path. You have to drop outside the castle to reach it.

Climb up again, then head left to the Bridge of Knowledge’s far end. Drop down into the gap, using Double Jump to guide your descent and slow it.
As you fall, latch onto the Luminous Anchors with the Arcane Whip and swing across the open sky toward the right.

Go through the opening and climb up into the chamber below the bridge. Hit the flame inside to put it out.

Unlock Alucard’s bedroom and take the weapon

Once every flame is extinguished, return to Alucard’s Tower summit. The five symbols over the family portrait should be unlit now, and the barrier should have vanished.
View the brief scene by the portrait. Leon says, “Someone loved once lived here,” while Medusa refers to it as the room of “the traitorous son” who aided Rose’s mother and father.
Interact with the shrine under the portrait. This raises the platforms above you.

Double jump and grapple up the new platforms into the bedroom above the portrait.
Interact with the crest on the wall next to the bed to take Alucard’s Sword and Shield.

The weapon card confirms success when it shows Legendary rarity and ATK 100; Rose then says, “I’m sure they won’t mind I borrow for a while.” Hold the card’s prompt to equip the weapon immediately. If you don’t, it remains in your inventory.

The Alucard Style Costume from the pre-order bonus is cosmetic only. It doesn’t give you the weapon and doesn’t skip the flame puzzle.

Alucard’s Sword and Shield stats and teleport attacks

For comparison, the Fleuret and Tower Shield in the Library is a tier 2 weapon of the same type. Notre-Dame’s Vampire Killer is the other Legendary weapon at tier 4.

Alucard’s Sword and Shield shares its basic style with the Fleuret and Tower Shield: combos finish with a shield bash, while holding Attack lifts the shield to stop frontal hits. Each hit uses the same mana for either set, but Alucard’s does more damage. Its ATK equals the Vampire Killer’s, although the whip has greater attack power. The three weapons share one stagger power.

Teleporting sets the weapon apart. When Rose attacks, she warps toward enemies, and she can reach distant targets as long as they’re in her field of view. That lets her deal a lot of damage from far away. The downside is control: you can’t always predict where she’ll land, so it feels less steady than a normal sword and shield. The weapon’s lore describes it as belonging to a dhampir whose mother was murdered and whose father is terrifying.

Fleuret and Tower Shield can be found in the Library. Like Alucard’s set, it blocks attacks from the front and finishes combos with a shield bash, but its ATK is half as high.

Vampire Killer is in Notre-Dame. Its lash does extra damage at the far tip, burns the enemies it hits there, and makes enemies explode in flames when they die.
