Season 15: Season of Hell’s Legacy went live on September 15, and it came apart almost immediately. Login failures hit European and American servers, and a Rebirth bug was handing brand new seasonal characters an endgame’s worth of progress. Blizzard responded by rolling the season back entirely and temporarily disabling seasonal characters.
Quick answer: Season 15 has been rolled back and delayed. If you get the code 700004 warning at character select, log out completely — your seasonal character is disabled, and no relaunch time has been confirmed.
What the code 700004 warning means
The main menu now throws a pop-up that reads: “WARNING! This season has ended and it’s Battle Pass can no longer be activated. Log out to access the new season. (Code 700004)”. The wording is misleading. The season did not end — it was reverted, and the client is reporting the reverted state as an ended season.
You confirm the rollback affected you the moment that dialog appears. Click Accept, log out fully, and your seasonal characters will be unavailable until the season is switched back on. Nothing you do at character select changes this.

Separately, a Blizzard community post from filthierich covered the login prevention issue on European and American servers. That is a different problem from the 700004 lockout, though players hit by both on launch day saw them stack.

Add to Google Preferences →The Rebirth bug that triggered the reset
Rebirth is meant to let you carry a character’s identity into a new season — class, name, appearance, Hardcore or Normal state, plus cosmetic preferences saved as an ensemble. Power is supposed to stay behind. On launch day it did not.
Level 1 seasonal characters created through Rebirth were inheriting things they should never have had:
- 300 Paragon points on a fresh character
- 14 Altar of Lilith skill points
- Billions of gold
- Endgame crafting materials
That is the kind of head start that cannot be patched around once it is in the economy. Rolling servers back wipes those characters out rather than letting the affected accounts keep a permanent advantage over everyone starting clean.
Any progress made on a Season 15 character before the rollback is gone. There is no partial restore path for it.
When Season 15 restarts
No official relaunch date or time has been confirmed. Until the season is re-enabled, the only reliable signal is the character select screen itself — when the 700004 warning stops appearing and seasonal characters can be created again, the season is back.
Prime Evil Powers: 21 choices across three tracks
The season’s headline system is built around Diablo, Baal and Mephisto. Deckard Cain’s spirit returns at the Imperial Library and sends you into the nightmares of three Dark Wanderers. Beating each Prime Evil awards a Splinter of Evil, and placing all three at Cain’s table opens the seasonal tab in your inventory.
You can only carry one Splinter of Evil at a time. The one you hold decides which reputation track you push and which Iconic Power fires periodically in combat. It also makes you take more damage from that particular Prime Evil, and its echoes will hunt you.
| Splinter | Damage type | Boosted activities |
|---|---|---|
| Splinter of Terror (Diablo) | Fire | Helltide, Infernal Hordes |
| Splinter of Destruction (Baal) | Cold | The Undercity, Lair Bosses |
| Splinter of Hatred (Mephisto) | Physical | The Pit, Nightmare Dungeons |
All three also modify Tree of Whispers content. Each track holds eight activity modifiers and six upgrades to that evil’s Iconic Power, and the full pool across the three evils comes to 21 Prime Evil Powers. Unused tracks keep their progress, so rotating between them across a season costs you nothing.
Where each Prime Evil is fought
Baal comes first, at the top of Arreat Summit. The route runs through Tal Rasha, the Ancients — Talic, Korlic and Madawc — and then Baal’s minions before the Throne of Destruction. Killing him drops a Lesser Splinter of the Black Soulstone and frequently Leoric’s Crown.

Mephisto follows in Hawezar during the Burning Shepherd quest, a direct lift of Diablo II’s third act. You gather Khalim’s Brain, Eye, Heart and Flail from surrounding dungeons, the game assembles Khalim’s Will for you, and you smash the Compelling Orb to open the way into the Durance of Hate.

Diablo sits beneath Tristram Cathedral. Teleport to Corbach, head south to Aidan, and work down through a weakened Butcher, the catacombs with Blood Raven and the caves with the Summoner. In the arena, Portals of Darkness keep Diablo invulnerable — destroy every portal to expose him.
Waking Nightmares rebuild classic Diablo locations
Waking Nightmares are the season’s core activity, and they come in three sizes. The largest are multi-level Capstone-style dungeons that host the Prime Evil fights; after the questline you can replay them on Torment, with pinnacle versions at Torment 10 and above. Ten standard-length Waking Nightmares sit at fixed entrances in the open world, recreating places like Tal Rasha’s Tomb, the Den of Evil and the Halls of the Blind. The third type pops up at random while you play and drops you into a single-room fight with a returning boss such as Queen Araneae.

Swapping your active Splinter of Evil is done at the largest Waking Nightmares, not from the seasonal menu. The menu only changes which power you have equipped.
Soul Splinters and their drawbacks
Soul Splinters are a separate system from the Prime Evil splinters. These are gems that socket into jewelry — and into Leoric’s Crown, which counts as jewelry — up to three at once. Every one pairs a large bonus with a real cost, and they drop as Magic, Rare, Legendary or Unique.
| Soul Splinter | Tied to | Base bonus (Magic tier) |
|---|---|---|
| Splinter of Anguish | Andariel | +250 Fire Resistance |
| Splinter of Sin | Azmodan | +250 Lightning Resistance |
| Splinter of Lies | Belial | +250 Cold Resistance |
| Splinter of Pain | Duriel | +250 Poison Resistance |
| Splinter of the Mother | Lilith | +250 Physical Resistance |
| Splinter of Hellfire | Na-Krul | +35 Resistance to All Elements |
| Splinter of Damnation | Skarn | +250 Shadow Resistance |
| Splinter of the Black Soulstone | — | +7 All Stats |
The drawbacks are where these get interesting. The Splinter of Hellfire gives flat increased damage but strips 100% Critical Strike Chance. The Splinter of Lies boosts gold, crafting materials and experience while leaving you permanently Weakened and Vulnerable. The Splinter of Pain trades movement speed for damage reduction. The Horadric Cube’s Amalgamation recipe fuses matching splinters of the same type and rarity into the next tier up.
Legacy Uniques returning to Sanctuary
Nine Legacy Uniques arrive with the season, and they are permanent additions to both the Seasonal and Eternal realms rather than temporary seasonal loot.
| Unique | Slot | Classes |
|---|---|---|
| Leoric’s Crown | Helm | All |
| Nemesis Bracers | Gloves | All |
| Stone of Jordan | Ring | All |
| Squirt’s Blouse | Chest | All |
| Arioc’s Needle | 2H Polearm | Barbarian, Druid, Spiritborn |
| Henri’s Perquisition | Offhand Focus | Sorcerer, Necromancer, Warlock |
| In-Geom | 1H Sword | Barbarian, Druid, Rogue, Necromancer, Paladin, Sorcerer, Warlock |
| The Furnace | 2H Mace | Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock |
| Messerschmidt’s Reaver | 2H Axe | Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock |
Leoric’s Crown is the one reshaping builds. It counts as jewelry, which means it can hold Soul Splinters, and it raises the effect of any gem socketed into the helm by 75-100%. Stone of Jordan sets every resistance equal to your highest and adds 15-25% more damage of that element. The Furnace gives 150-200% more damage to Elites, and In-Geom knocks 8-10 seconds off your cooldowns for 15 seconds whenever you clear an Elite pack. Seven of the nine also exist as Unique Charms for the Talisman; Leoric’s Crown and Messerschmidt’s Reaver are equipment only.
Sitting outside that announced list is a set of 17 further uniques modeled on Diablo II runewords — Enigma, Prudence, Rain, Stealth, Call to Arms, Grief, Infinity and Last Wish among them — built through the Horadric Cube. Two charms in the same vein have surfaced as well: the Annihilus Unique Horadric Seal and the Hellfire Torch Mythic Unique Charm, both carrying large boosts to stats, all resistances and all skills. The anniversary throwbacks run further still, with a rainbow-colored Whimsyshire secret level and a Head of the Bovine cosmetic transmog set.
Crafting, Mythics and shared War Plans
The Horadric Cube gains an Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic recipe that converts an eligible item into its Mythic version as a straight 1:1 swap, keeping existing affixes, Tempering and Masterworking. It is the most expensive route, and it is the only one that applies the Crafted tag. The Jeweler’s Rune Crafting and the Blacksmith’s Mythic caches both produce random results without the tag. A second Blacksmith recipe specifically yields an Iconic Mythic, at the same Resplendent Spark cost as the generic one.
You can equip only one Crafted-tag Mythic at a time. Directly upgraded items compete for that single slot, so plan which piece gets it before you spend the materials.
Two reroll recipes join the Cube. Affix Value Reroll rerolls base affixes on equipment, Charms and Seals while protecting Greater Affixes, Enchanted affixes, Tempers and valid Transfigurations. Horadric Reroll is for Legendary or higher Charms and Seals only, fully randomizing base affixes without touching Set Bonuses or Unique and Mythic charm powers. An item marked Unmodifiable cannot use the direct Mythic upgrade at all.
War Plans also become account-wide. Progress is shared between characters that match on all three partitions — Eternal or Seasonal, Hardcore or not, Solo Self-Found or not. Two Seasonal non-Hardcore non-SSF characters share; a Seasonal non-Hardcore SSF character keeps its own.
Everything above is still sitting behind a locked season. Until Blizzard flips it back on, the only thing to do is close the 700004 dialog and check back — and if you were planning to use Rebirth, let someone else test it first this time.
