Reptile Leather in Enshrouded 1.0 comes from a two-step chain. You kill Snapjaws, the crocodile-like reptiles that hide in Blackmire’s mud and tar pits, to get Reptile Hide. Then you cure that hide with Salt at your base. Both materials are level 13 Common items, and you need the leather for the Medium Backpack and a long list of level 10 armor.
Quick answer: Kill Snapjaws in Blackmire’s mud and tar pits for Reptile Hide. At the Drying Rack, 1 Reptile Hide plus 3 Salt makes 3 Reptile Leather in 60 seconds.

Reptile Hide is the scaly skin of the reptile, and the game treats it purely as a crafting input. You do not need to find a recipe for the leather separately. Your first pickup of Reptile Hide adds the Reptile Leather recipe to the Drying Rack automatically.

Snapjaws only live in the mud and tar pits of Blackmire. They also spend most of their time underwater, so you won’t see them from a distance the way you see most of Enshrouded’s wildlife. Watch for bubbles on the surface of a pit. Bubbles almost always mean a Snapjaw is sitting under them. Every Blackmire pit can spawn them, but three spots are the most reliable.
Snapjaw Tar Pits
The Snapjaw Tar Pits sit about 290 meters west of the Blackmire Ancient Spire, and the name tells you what’s there. If you have already rescued the Bard, her Daggers for the Bard quest sends you to this exact spot.
Swamp water below the Blackmire Ancient Spire
For the fastest trip, fast travel to the Ancient Spire, jump off the north side, and glide over the canopy into the swamp basin below. You land in shallow, murky water near broken wooden piers and ruins, and Snapjaws come up out of the water around them. The ponds just south of the spire hold Snapjaws too.
Sunken Ancient City
The Sunken Ancient City lies just north of the Blackmire spire. The pits around it are a good second farming loop if the Tar Pits are empty.
How to kill a Snapjaw and loot Reptile Hide
Check the pickup feed on the left edge of the screen to confirm the drop. Reptile Hide shows up there, usually next to Bones. A single kill can return 4 Reptile Hide and 3 Bones, so a few Snapjaws cover most crafting plans.
Where to get Salt for Reptile Leather
Each batch of leather needs 3 Salt, and every other hide you tan needs Salt as well. The Egerton Salt Mine, west of the Springlands Ancient Spire, has plenty of it. Mine as much as you can carry on each visit so you don’t have to keep going back.
How to make Reptile Leather at the Drying Rack
In 1.0, Reptile Leather is made at the Drying Rack. The Tanning Station does not have the recipe, so don’t bother checking it.
| Station | Input | Output | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Reptile Hide + 3 Salt | 3 Reptile Leather | 60 seconds |

What Reptile Leather is used for
Reptile Leather goes into the Medium Backpack and level 10 armor from three different artisans. Those armor pieces are Rare gear, and you can only craft them at Flame level 3 or higher while standing under a roof. You will also need other materials from the same tier, mostly Copper Bars, Linen, Amber, Goo, and Giant Critter Scales.

Bard: Medium Backpack
The Bard crafts the Medium Backpack from 6 Reptile Leather and 6 Linen. That’s two Drying Rack batches, which works out to 2 Reptile Hide and 6 Salt.

Blacksmith armor that uses Reptile Leather
| Armor piece | Reptile Leather | Other materials |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 Resin, 2 Copper Bars, 2 Shroud Sack | |
| 1 | 2 Copper Bars, 5 Shroud Mushroom, 1 Bug Dust | |
| 2 | 4 Torn Cloth, 4 Copper Bars, 4 Amber, 3 Giant Critter Scales |
All three are Warrior pieces. The Tank Chestplate is the only recipe on the list that takes two leather instead of one.

Hunter armor that uses Reptile Leather
| Armor piece | Reptile Leather | Other materials |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 Linen, 4 Torn Cloth, 2 Resin, 2 Corrupted Boar Tusk | |
| 1 | 2 Copper Bars, 2 Goo, 2 Shroud Sack | |
| 1 | 1 Linen, 4 Copper Bars, 4 Amber, 3 Giant Critter Scales | |
| 1 | 2 Linen, 4 Bones, 2 Goo, 2 Corrupted Boar Tusk | |
| 1 | 2 Shroud Sack, 1 Copper Bars, 4 Amber | |
| 1 | 4 Copper Bars, 4 Amber, 1 Dried Fur, 3 Giant Critter Scales |
These are the Ranger and Cutthroat sets for the Ranger class. The Bones you loot from Snapjaws count toward the Cutthroat Trousers, so one Blackmire trip covers both inputs.

Alchemist armor that uses Reptile Leather
| Armor piece | Reptile Leather | Other materials |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 Dried Fur, 1 Resin, 2 Brittle Shroud Petals | |
| 1 | 1 Bug Dust, 2 Resin, 2 Brittle Shroud Petals |
Add it all up and crafting every piece above plus the Medium Backpack takes 18 Reptile Leather. That’s six Drying Rack batches, or 6 Reptile Hide and 18 Salt, which two good Snapjaw kills can cover.
Every armor piece above belongs to the Flame level 3 class sets. The full gear lists, with the rest of their materials, are in the early warrior build, the early ranger build and the early mage build. The other inputs have their own guides: Copper Ore and Copper Bars, Goo and Shroud Mushroom.
