In Enshrouded 1.0, characters can reach level 50. A character at that level who has also cleared every Shroud Root and Elixir Well root will have 212 skill points to spend.
What is the max level in Enshrouded 1.0?
Character level stops at 50. Early Access capped out at level 45, and the 1.0 release raised the ceiling by five levels.

Every level-up gives you 2 skill points. Your character starts at level 1, so climbing from level 2 to level 50 is 49 level-ups, which adds up to 98 skill points from leveling alone.
XP comes from a handful of places, and they all feed the same bar:
- Defeating enemies
- Completing quests
- Exploring and discovering places
- Mining
- Completing item sets in the journal
An Experience Scroll also works. Using one grants “a small amount of experience”, so it nudges the bar rather than jumping you a level.

Character levels aren’t the only source of skill points: exploration awards them once per character. Destroy a standalone Shroud Root to gain 1 point, or destroy an Elixir Well root for 3. The world contains 78 such sources—60 worth 1 point and 18 worth 3—for a total of 114 points.
| Source | Skill points |
|---|---|
| Levels 2-50 (2 per level) | 98 |
| Shroud Roots (60, 1 each) | 60 |
| Elixir Wells (18, 3 each) | 54 |
| Total at level 50 with every root | 212 |
Once you hit level 50, leveling stops paying out. From that point the only way to earn more skill points is to hunt down whatever Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells you haven’t destroyed yet.
You spend those points in the skill tree. Unlocking a node switches that skill on, and the tree is split into class sides, such as the Ranger side, so you can push points toward the playstyle you want.

Character level vs. Flame Level
These two numbers are easy to mix up, but they track different things. Character level is yours, and it’s what earns skill points. Flame Level belongs to the Flame Altar, and it goes up when you upgrade the altar.

Flame Level determines your Shroud protection and how long the Shroud timer lasts; it also controls region access and crafting requirements. Reaching the character level cap won’t raise Flame Level—you must upgrade the altar.
Max gear level in Enshrouded 1.0
Gear runs on its own level, separate from your character. Weapons and armor reach item level 55 when fully enhanced. That’s why your gear can end up with a higher number than your level 50 character.
