Enshrouded: How to Craft the Fireplace (Building Shelter Quest)

Build the Fireplace at the Workbench for 6 Stone and 2 Wood Logs to clear the Building Shelter step and move on to the Elixir Well.

Build the Fireplace at the Workbench for 6 Stone and 2 Wood Logs to clear the Building Shelter step and move on to the Elixir Well.

In Enshrouded 1.0 on PC, making the Fireplace completes the Building Shelter quest step. It is a Workbench recipe, so build it at the Workbench beside the first Flame Altar on the Plains. Once built, the tracker advances toward the Elixir Well.

Quick answer: Open the Workbench, go to Comfort Furniture, pick the first item under Basic Comfort, and craft the Fireplace with 6 Stone and 2 Wood Logs.

What you need to craft the Fireplace

The Fireplace recipe is at the Workbench and uses Stone and Wood Logs. Have these on hand before you open the bench.

  • Stone 6
  • Wood Logs 2
  • Access to the Workbench on the Plains

Craft the Fireplace at the Workbench

This step comes right after “Use The Construction Hammer” (see the rough blocks and Construction Hammer guide). The tracker reads “BUILDING SHELTER – Craft or Obtain A Fireplace” while it is active.

Walk up to the Workbench and tap E on the “E Craft & Repair” prompt. The WORKBENCH tab opens, with Essentials, Blocks, Roof Blocks, Road Blocks, Comfort Furniture, Decorative and Other Furniture listed down the left.

Select Comfort Furniture. The first entry in the “COMFORT FURNITURE – BASIC COMFORT” section is the Fireplace, listed as Hearth and Common. Its recipe card reads “Fireplace / Hearth” with Requirements Workbench and Resources Stone 6 and Wood Logs 2. When you have enough, both counts show in green.

Press SPACE to craft one Fireplace. SHIFT + SPACE crafts ten. After crafting, the card updates to show Stone and Wood Logs spent, and the Comfort Furniture list grows from 6 to 12 entries as chairs, tables and more Basic Comfort items appear, along with a “DECORATIVE – FENCES” section.

Exit the Workbench. The “ALL ITEMS REPAIRED” toast appears, and the tracker updates to “CLEAR THE ELIXIR WELL – Reach The Elixir Well”. This confirms that making the Fireplace completed the Building Shelter step.

Place the Fireplace at your base

The crafted Fireplace lands in the ALT action bar, ready to position.

Hold ALT and press the Fireplace’s slot number to bring up the placement preview. The side panel reads “Fireplace” with R Rotate 90 degrees, R + mouse Rotate, Finetune Rotation, Finetune Position, X Use Snapping, and “Flame protected area”, the zone around your Flame Altar.

Aim the ghost where you want it. A blue preview means it can go there; a red preview means the spot is blocked. Use R to rotate in 90 degree turns and X to snap it into place.
Press the left mouse button to place the Fireplace on a blue spot near your base.

How to confirm the Fireplace is working

With the Fireplace placed at your base, the Rested buff’s conditions list ticks “Comfort (Level 1)” next to Warmth. That tick shows the Fireplace counting toward your comfort, while the quest already points you at the Elixir Well.

The Campfire is a different item

The Campfire is not the Fireplace the quest asks for, and it is made by hand rather than at the Workbench. Open the CRAFTING tab of the main menu with V, then look under the “SUPPLIES – UTILITY” section for “Campfire, Level 1 Resting”, which costs Wood Logs 2.

A placed Campfire shows the prompt “E Cook” (cooking is covered in the low health food guide). Pressing E sits the character by the fire, and the Rested buff reads “Increased Stamina Maximum and Regeneration” with Sitting and Warmth ticked (the Rested buff guide covers each condition). Reach for the Workbench recipe instead when you need the Fireplace to clear the Building Shelter step.
