Fisch: How to Get the Squalled Mutation in Skycrest

Squalled is a weather-linked mutation in Fisch, and unlike most rare rolls, you do not have to wait for luck to break your way. Two squall weather events and one rod can produce it, and both weather events can be forced on demand with the right totem.

Quick answer: Fish with the Abaia’s Bite rod for a 75% mutation chance, or fish during a Raging Squall (25%) or Tropical Squall (15%). Trigger either storm instantly with a Raging Squall Totem or Tropical Squall Totem.

Squalled mutation chances compared

All three methods apply the same mutation. The only difference is how often it lands on a catch and how much setup each one needs.

The rod is the most consistent option because it works in any weather. The two squalls are the fallback if you do not have Abaia’s Bite yet, and Raging Squall is the stronger of the pair.

Farming Squalled with the Abaia’s Bite rod

Equip Abaia’s Bite and travel to a fishing spot. Skycrest is a convenient destination since you can warp there directly rather than running from Moosewood Village.

Pick a spot on the water and cast normally. No weather event or totem is required for this method to work.

Reel in as usual. The rod rolls a 75% chance for Squalled on a standard catch, which drops to 50% when you land a perfect catch, so there is no benefit to chasing perfect timing here.

Fishing during a Tropical Squall or Raging Squall

Both squalls apply Squalled to fish caught while the weather is running, with no rod requirement. Raging Squall pays out at 25% per catch and Tropical Squall at 15%, so favour Raging Squall when you have the choice.

Confirm the squall is active before you cast. The mutation only rolls on fish reeled in while the weather event is live.

Keep casting for the full duration of the storm. Because the roll happens per fish, throughput matters more than the individual catch, so a quick fishing spot beats a slow, high-value one.

Note: A fish can only carry one mutation at a time, and higher-multiplier mutations take priority. If another rod or effect is also rolling a mutation, that can push Squalled off the catch.

Forcing squall weather with totems

You have two ways to get a squall running instead of waiting for the server weather to roll into one.

Squall Totems: A Tropical Squall Totem or Raging Squall Totem starts the matching storm immediately. These come from specific quests.
Sundial Totems: Use them repeatedly to cycle the weather until a squall comes up. Slower and less predictable, but useful if you have a stack of them.

Squall totems also appear in Kaito’s Weekly Shop rotation. Speak to Kaito, open the shop, and check View Chances to see the current odds — the Tropical Squall Totem has been listed around 11.236% in that rotation.

How to confirm a fish rolled Squalled

The mutation name is prefixed to the fish name on the catch, so a mutated Aphrodite Anthias reads as “Squalled Aphrodite Anthias”. To check what you have already banked, open your Fish inventory and search for “squalled” — every mutated catch you own will filter into view.

If nothing shows up after a session, the usual causes are narrow. The squall ended before you finished the catch, you were fishing outside the storm, or a competing mutation with a higher multiplier and priority overwrote the roll.

If you already own Abaia’s Bite, there is little reason to bother with weather at all — three catches in four should come out mutated. Everyone else should bank squall totems as they appear in quests and shop rotations, then burn them in a single concentrated fishing session rather than one at a time.
