Fisch: How to Spawn the Tropical Squall Event (Skycrest)

Tropical Squall is the Skycrest weather event that gates some of the most valuable content added with the Fischfest expansion, including the extreme idol trials that reward the Titanic Charm and the taming window for the Idol Taiga companion. It does not appear on a fixed schedule, so waiting for it is the slowest possible approach. There are two dependable ways to force it.

Quick answer: Offer fish at the Fire of Spirits altar until the flame reaches 100%, then use a Sundial Totem to advance the day/night cycle for a chance to trigger the squall. If you would rather skip the grind, buy and activate a Tropical Squall Totem from Kaito’s Weekly Shop for 100,000 C$.

Method 1: Fire of Spirits altar and Sundial Totem

This is the repeatable route and the one to use when the shop rotation is not cooperating. It costs you fish rather than coins, and you can run it as many times as you can keep the altar fed.

Travel to Skycrest and drop through the large circular opening in the island floor. That shaft leads down into Abaia’s Chamber, the green-lit underground area that houses the Fire of Spirits fire pit. Press G to open the GPS if you need help orienting yourself on the island first.

Stand next to the fire pit and use the “E — Offer Fish” prompt to sacrifice your catches. The progress percentage climbs with every offering, and rarer fish push the flame up far more than common ones do. Keep feeding until the meter reads 100%.

With the flame fully charged, activate a Sundial Totem to force the day/night cycle forward. Advancing the celestial cycle at 100% is what rolls the chance for the squall to descend.

If nothing happens, repeat the cycle change. The trigger is a chance roll rather than a guarantee, so several passes may be needed before the weather flips.

Note: Charging the altar is also how the Abaia Hunt eventually gets summoned, so the fish you sink into the fire are not wasted even on failed rolls.

Method 2: Buy a Tropical Squall Totem from Kaito’s Weekly Shop

The totem route is instant and removes the randomness entirely, but it depends on the item showing up in that week’s stock and on you having the coins spare.

Glide over to Skycrest and head for Kaito’s Weekly Shop. The vendor sits on the floating island itself, so no other travel is required.

Open the shop and scroll the weekly stock list. Each entry shows its price alongside the purchase limit for the current rotation.

Use the View Chances button to check the odds table. The Tropical Squall Totem carries an 11.236% chance of appearing in any given rotation, capped at two purchases per week.

Buy the Tropical Squall Totem for 100,000 C$ and activate it from your inventory. The weather changes immediately, with no cycle rolls involved.

Tip: If the Sundial Totem is stocked but the Tropical Squall Totem is not, buy the sundial anyway. It is the key that makes the altar method work, and it stays useful long after the squall ends.

How to confirm the Tropical Squall started

The moment it triggers, the system message “A Tropical Squall has descended!” appears on screen and green particles swirl around the fire pit area. That banner is the only confirmation you need. If it does not appear after you advance the cycle, the roll simply failed and you can try again.

Why the squall is not triggering

Only a few things actually block the trigger, and each has a direct fix.

The flame is below 100%. Keep offering fish, and prioritise higher rarity catches since they raise the meter much faster.
You have no Sundial Totem. Reaching 100% on its own does nothing without a way to advance the day/night cycle.
You only tried once. The altar route rolls a chance each time the cycle advances, so repeat attempts are expected.
The totem is not in stock. Kaito’s rotation is randomised, so the Tropical Squall Totem will not be available every week.

What the Tropical Squall unlocks

The weather window is worth planning around because several things on Skycrest only work while it is active. Extreme idol trials open up during the squall, and clearing them is how the Titanic Charm is earned. It is also the only weather in which the Idol Taiga companion can be tamed, using the night-time firefly variants collected around the island. The Fire of Spirits itself becomes more useful during the squall, since sacrificing fish there expands the flame and raises luck and weather spawn rates for everyone nearby, eventually leading into the Abaia Hunt.

If you plan on chasing the Titanic Charm and the Idol Taiga in the same session, get your fireflies collected and your trial requirements lined up before you pop the totem. The squall does not last forever, and burning a 100,000 C$ item to stand around gathering bait is an easy way to waste it.
