Graveyard Keeper 2: How to Get Fuel for the Furnace, Kiln, and Oven

Build a Firewood Shed, chop Firewood, and convert it into Fuel to keep your crafting stations running.

Build a Firewood Shed, chop Firewood, and convert it into Fuel to keep your crafting stations running.

Early in Graveyard Keeper 2 you will need to run a furnace and kiln to produce bricks and other materials for quests and upgrades. Every one of those stations, along with the kitchen oven, burns Fuel, but the game never spells out what Fuel actually is or where it comes from. The short version is that Fuel is made from Firewood, and Firewood only becomes usable once it sits in a Firewood Shed.

Quick answer: Build a Firewood Shed (10 Sticks and 2 Bronze Nails), craft Firewood at a Chopping Spot from Short Logs, then load the Firewood into the shed to turn 2 Firewood into 20 Fuel.

What Fuel powers and what you need first

Fuel is consumed by heat-based stations. The furnace and kiln in your yard need it, and the kitchen oven inside your house needs it too. The Kitchen Table does not require Fuel, so cold prep is unaffected, but anything cooked with heat draws from a stored Fuel supply.

Before you can make any Fuel at all, you need three things in place.

  • A Firewood Shed, unlocked under the Metallurgy branch of the Tech Tree.
  • A Chopping Spot to turn logs into Firewood.
  • A steady supply of Short Logs or Sticks to feed the Chopping Spot.

Build the Firewood Shed

The Firewood Shed is crafted from a blueprint on the wall to the left of your bed inside the house. It costs 10 Sticks and 2 Bronze Nails.

Gather Sticks. You collect them automatically when you chop down trees or clear the weeds and thorns around your yard, so early cleanup work usually leaves you with plenty.
Get Bronze Nails. Break down the broken barrels and trash piles scattered around your yard to find them. You can also craft them at a Wooden Anvil, which is unlocked through the Metallurgy line, using one piece of Bronze Scrap to make six Bronze Nails. Bronze Scrap turns up in the same barrels and trash piles.
Interact with the blueprint and place the finished shed. The build menu lists both Firewood shed I and Firewood shed II, so pick the tier you have unlocked and confirm placement.

One shed only supplies stations in its own area. You will need a shed inside the house for the oven and a separate shed outdoors for the furnace, kiln, and other yard stations, and both must be kept stocked.

Chop Firewood at the Chopping Spot

Firewood is produced at a Chopping Spot. One Short Log yields 10 Firewood, and you can also feed Sticks into the same recipe if you are short on logs.

Get Short Logs. Chop down a tree, then interact with the leftover stump to dig it out, which produces the Short Log.
Open the Chopping Spot and craft Firewood. Each Short Log turns into a batch of 10 Firewood, so clearing several trees in one session gives you a large stockpile to work from.

Clearing a lot of trees at once and converting the Short Logs in bulk saves you from breaking off crafting or quests to gather more wood, which matters when your energy is low or fatigue has built up.

Turn Firewood into Fuel

Firewood does nothing on its own. Carry it to a Firewood Shed and load it in, then use the shed to convert it. 2 pieces of Firewood become 20 Fuel, which is enough to run an oven or furnace through a couple of crafting recipes.

Each shed tier holds a different amount of Fuel, so upgrading raises how much you can bank before topping up again.

Every item you craft and every dish you cook draws its own amount of Fuel, so plan to refill Firewood and Fuel regularly rather than making a single batch and forgetting it.

Confirm the Fuel is working

Open the furnace, kiln, or oven and check the Available fuel counter. Once it shows a value, the station will accept recipes and the craft or cook option becomes selectable. If a recipe still refuses to start, the shed serving that area is empty or too far from the station.

With the indoor shed stocked, the oven can bake meals such as bread and other cooked dishes, giving you Energy-restoring food to keep working through the day. Keep both sheds topped up and your furnace, kiln, and oven will stay lit for as long as you have Firewood to feed them.
