Halloween: The Game Prologue: How to Execute an Orderly with the Telephone Pole

The exact spot and inputs to finish the Prologue’s third challenge and unlock the Dark and Stormy title.

Escape From Smith’s Grove is the opening chapter of Halloween: The Game, and it hides six optional challenges alongside Michael Myers’ escape from the sanitarium. The third of these asks you to kill an orderly by impaling them on a telephone pole. There is only one pole in the level that actually registers for this, so the timing and the location both matter.

Quick answer: Reach the gate area near the end of the first section, find the telephone pole to the right of the power box, grab the nearest orderly, drag them to the pole, and hold Interact when the Rusty Impale prompt appears on your HUD.

Where the working telephone pole is in the Prologue

Several telephone poles appear across Smith’s Grove, including near the start where Michael first breaks out. None of those count. The single pole that completes the challenge sits at the end of the first area, right beside the power box you have to shut off before prying open the gate to the next section.

Because of that placement, do not try to force the execution during the early asylum escape. Play through as normal until the objective takes you to the power box and gate, and the usable pole will be standing to the right of the box.

How to impale an orderly on the pole

Advance to the gate section and locate the power box. The telephone pole you need is immediately to its right, so position yourself near it before grabbing anyone.
Find the closest orderly. Orderlies are the hospital guards carrying flashlights. Approach one and grab them.
Drag the grabbed orderly over to the pole. A skull icon will appear, which signals that a Context Execution is available at that spot.
Move in close until the Rusty Impale indicator shows on your HUD, then press the Interact key. Michael slams the orderly onto the pole, and the challenge registers as done.

Reward and how to confirm it counted

Landing the pole kill unlocks the Dark and Stormy Player Title, which you can then equip on your profile. That title unlock is the confirmation that Challenge 3 completed correctly.

Note: You still have to finish the rest of the chapter for progress to save. Quitting the mission after the execution, even on a replay, wipes everything you earned up to that point, so ride the Prologue out to its ending.

Why the execution might not trigger

  • You are at one of the early poles near the asylum escape rather than the one beside the power box. Only that pole works for this challenge.
  • You pressed Interact before the Rusty Impale indicator appeared. Get closer to the pole with the orderly in hand until the prompt shows.
  • You left the mission before reaching the end, which resets progress and marks the challenge as incomplete.

The other Prologue challenges, such as terrifying an orderly into fleeing or clearing the area without alerting anyone, cannot all be done in a single run, so expect to replay Escape From Smith’s Grove a few times to collect everything.
