How to Fish: Best Ways to Earn Money

Feeding creatures, cooking with the grill, Killscore multipliers, and dynamite are the fastest ways to build your cash flow.

Feeding creatures, cooking with the grill, Killscore multipliers, and dynamite are the fastest ways to build your cash flow.

Money drives every part of progression in How to Fish, and catching a creature is only the first step in turning it into cash. What you do to that creature before you sell it, and which systems you unlock along the way, decides how much you walk away with per hour.

Quick answer: Feed low-value pickups to island NPCs for steady early cash, then stack Killscore bonuses on your catches, unlock the grill to sell everything at 1.5x, and use dynamite for bulk kills when you need volume fast.

Feed creatures to the island NPC

The most basic income source is feeding creatures to the NPC on each island. Anything you pick up off the ground counts, from a simple Clam to something you just pulled out of the water.

Catch a creature and release it on the ground next to you.
Punch or poke it until it dies, then pick up the remains.
Hand the remains to the island’s NPC to collect your payout. The amount depends entirely on the creature’s tier and rarity, so common pickups pay very little while rarer catches pay far more.

Raise the Killscore on every catch

How you kill a creature changes how much it sells for. Landing stylish shots builds a Killscore multiplier, and a higher multiplier means more money when you sell that catch. This is one of the biggest income boosts available once you have a reliable weapon.

Tip: Practise on weak creatures rather than a boss you spent bait to summon. Damage something until it is nearly dead, back off to create distance, then attempt the fancy finishing shot so the multiplier lands cleanly.

Unlock the grill and cook everything before selling

Cooking is the single biggest economic upgrade in the game. Once you can cook, holding a sellable item over the grill raises its cooking multiplier up to 1.5x its normal value. After this unlocks, selling valuable raw fish is throwing money away.

You unlock the grill by completing the shark request in the Desert biome, the “Blue Shark” quest tied to the Grillmaster. From then on, press F while inspecting an item to watch the cooking multiplier climb, and pull the item off the heat the moment it hits 1.5x.

Timing matters. Leave an item cooking too long and it turns black, its value collapses, and you have converted a good fish into charcoal. The multiplier is not limited to seafood either, so obsolete weapons and other sellable objects can be cooked for the same 1.5x boost before you sell them.

Note: Cooked creatures also restore more health than raw ones, so a stash of cooked fish doubles as your medical supply for tougher boss fights. On the Volcano island you can cook using the lava itself, which reaches the maximum 1.5x value without babysitting the grill timer.

Use dynamite for bulk fish

Dynamite is a fast way to harvest a lot of fish at once. Throw it into the water and it kills several creatures in one blast, leaving their bodies floating on the surface for you to collect. Because it skips the catching process entirely, it raises your money per hour when you need volume.

It is best treated as a quick harvesting tool rather than a long-term farm. Dynamite bypasses the stylish-kill opportunities that boost a single creature’s value, so as your gear improves, properly caught fish combined with Killscore bonuses and cooking earn significantly more.

Complete quests for reliable payouts

Quests appear in the top-left of the screen. Finish the requested task, then turn in the required items to the island’s NPC to receive a solid lump of money on completion. Quests also gate key unlocks such as the grill, so clearing them pays off twice.

One warning before you sell: hang on to anything that looks like a boss trophy, such as shells, skeletons, fins, or heads with unique names. These are often quest objects rather than vendor trash, and selling the wrong piece of a dead sea monster can stall your progression.

Early on, lean on feeding creatures and finishing quests while cash is tight. As soon as you have a dependable weapon, start stacking Killscore multipliers, and once the grill is unlocked, cook everything you plan to sell. That combination of stylish kills plus cooking is what pushes your earnings well past raw fishing alone.
