The Drylands is Fisch’s newest desert expansion, packed with fossil fish, sandstorms, and the Mysterious Marrow questline. Reaching it does not require any quest progress first. You only need to travel to the right island and cross over on foot.
Quick answer: Travel to FischFest island, walk to the back of the large castle, and cross to the new landmass sitting just behind it. That connected island is the Drylands.

You know you have reached the Drylands when the environment switches to open desert dunes, and you can spot the large arch at the far end of the area. Behind that arch stands Paleontologist Petri, the NPC who starts the main questline. If you can talk to him, you are in the right place.
Note: The desert brings dangerous weather. Sandstorms reduce visibility, and heat becomes a factor once you begin exploring further in, so plan to pick up the survival gear the questline hands out.

What to do right after you arrive
Talking to Paleontologist Petri opens the Mysterious Marrow quest. His first request is an Unrefined Magnetite Core, which you can buy from the shop for 15,000. Handing it over rewards the Sand Sifter, the tool that lets you fish directly on the sand.
From there the questline runs in a fixed order. Each step unlocks the next, so the fastest path is to complete the first two objectives before anything else.
| Early objective | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Deliver the Unrefined Magnetite Core to Petri | Sand Sifter (fish on sand) |
| Speak to the NPC by the Invincible Relic on Ancient Isle | Mysterious Fang |
| Buy Dune Wraps (40,000) | Heat resistance in the desert |
| Craft the Marrow Rod at the Ancient Archives | Quest-progression rod (needs Core, Scale, Fang and 100,000) |
Beyond the questline, the Drylands holds several fish that spawn nowhere else. Bring your strongest rod, stack your Luck, and you will have plenty to work through once you are standing on the sand.
