Microsoft never fails to be pushy about using Edge over other browsers. The result of this ideology is system links opening in Edge even if you have set some other browser as your default.

Thankfully, there are third-party tools that you can use to bypass this protocol in order to open all the links in Google Chrome instead of Microsoft Edge.

One such open-source tool is MSEdgeRedirect which helps you in opening the Microsoft Edge links in Chrome. Moreover, it also allows enables you to switch the weather information source along with switching the Bing results with Google.

However, before you can start redirecting Microsoft Edge links to Chrome, you will need to download the MSEdgeRedirect Tool from Github.

Install and Set up MSEdgeRedirect Tool on your Windows PC

As mentioned earlier, the MSEdgeRedirect Tool is open-source and hence, free to use. You can download the software easily from Github and install it on your Windows machine easily following the steps mentioned below.

To download the tool, head to the github.com/MSEdgeRedirect website using your preferred browser. Then, scroll down on the Github page till you locate the ‘Download’ section and click on the ‘Download latest stable release’ option to download the tool.

Once downloaded, head to the default downloads directory on your system and double-click on the .exe file to initiate the setup.

After that, the Microsoft Defender Smart Screen window might appear on your screen detecting the unrecognized app as a potentially hazardous one. Click on the ‘more info’ link to reveal options at the bottom of the pane.

Next, click on the ‘Run anyway’ option to let the setup process commence on your device.

Now on the first screen of the setup, click on the radio button preceding the ‘I accept this license’ and click on the ‘Next’ button to proceed to the next screen.

On the next screen, you will need to select the operation mode for the MSEdgeRedirect tool. Now, if you wish to enable the tool only for your user account on the machine, select the ‘Service Mode’ by clicking on the radio button preceding the option.

Otherwise, if you wish to enable the tool for all users, select the ‘Active mode’ option by clicking on the radio button preceding the respective option. Moreover, you can also choose this option if you only wish to redirect the links only when a specific version of Edge is opening a link.

In case you decide to go with the ‘Service Mode’ option, you can also choose to start the tool as soon as you sign in to your system by clicking on the checkbox preceding the ‘Start MSEdgeRedirect Service With Windows’ option. Along with that, you can also choose to hide the tray icon for the MSEdgeRedirect tool to make the tray area a bit less cluttered by clicking on the checkbox preceding the ‘Hide MSEdgRedirect Service Icon from Tray’ option.

Once you have selected the mode of operation as per your preference, click on the ‘Next’ button to continue.

On the next screen, you can also redirect PDF links to your preferred PDF reader, or replace Bing search results with your desired search engine. Moreover, you can also change the weather information source to get better results.

To redirect PDFs, first, click on the checkbox preceding the ‘Redirect PDFs to:’ option. This will open a separate file explorer window on your screen. Then, browse and select the .exe file of the PDF reader you wish to open every time.

Next, if you wish to replace Bing as the default search engine, click on the checkbox preceding the ‘Replace Bing Search Results with’ option and then click on the drop-down menu present under the option. After that, click to select your preferred search engine from the list.

In case you wish to change the weather information source, click on the checkbox preceding the ‘Replace Weather Results with:’ and then click on the drop-down menu present right underneath the option. Next, click to select your desired option from the list.

Once you have selected the options as per your preference, click on the ‘Install’ button to start installing the MSEdgeRedirect Tool on your system.

After that, once the tool is installed, you will be notified of the same on the installation window.

Now, all the links on your computer will be opened in Chrome by default even if they are supposed to open in Microsoft Edge.

In case you did not opt to run the MSEdgeRedirect Tool to run as soon as you sign in the Windows, you will need to start eh service every time you log in on your computer.

To do so, head to Start Menu and type MSEdgeRedirect, then from the search results, click on the ‘MSEdgeRedirect Tool’ tile to start the service.
