Illegal Soccer on Roblox: How to Play, Controls, and Item Boxes

Every confirmed keybind, the tutorial’s three-goal requirement, and how loadout items change an eight-player match.

Illegal Soccer is a Roblox sports experience built by Repotted where the only rule is the scoreboard. Two teams of up to four players each fight over one ball on a single pitch, and tackling, punching, guns, jetpacks, oil spills, and explosives are all permitted. Matches run on a timer, the team with more goals wins, and there are no referees to stop anything in between.

Quick answer: Touch the ball to pick it up, left click to kick, right click to pass, E to slide tackle, Space to dribble past a hit, and score 3 goals to finish the tutorial and unlock your first free item rolls.

Illegal Soccer controls (full keybind list)

The control scheme is short enough to memorize before your first kickoff. Every action below is bound by default, and you can review or rebind them from the in-game settings menu.

InputAction
W / A / S / DMovement
ShiftSprint (drains stamina)
Left clickKick the ball, or hit an opponent
Left click (hold)Charged kick / power shot
Right clickPass to a teammate
FLob (high pass)
RRequest the ball back
QFlick
ESlide tackle
SpaceDribble

Two settings are worth changing before you join a real match. Turn Assisted Passes on so the ball tracks toward a teammate instead of drifting into open space, and leave Automatic Item Use off so a jetpack or rocket punch never fires on its own at midfield.

Finish the tutorial: score 3 goals

New accounts start in a guided tutorial that walks through each mechanic in order. It gates your item rolls, so clearing it is the first thing to do.

Walk into the ball to pick it up. Contact is enough — there is no grab key. Once it is attached to you, left click sends it forward.
Practice the passing set. Right click passes to a teammate, F lobs the ball over a defender’s head, and R asks whoever has possession to send it back to you.

Attack an opponent. Hold left click to kick them, then press E to slide into their legs and trip them. The tutorial asks for both inputs in sequence before it moves on.

Defend your own possession with Space. Dribbling shifts you sideways at the moment an opponent commits to a hit, and the prompt appears when someone is about to reach you.

Pick up the question-mark item box, press 1 to equip what it gives you, then left click to fire. This is the same loop you will use for weapons and powerups in live matches.
Put 3 goals in the net. Once the third one lands, the tutorial closes and you are moved to the main lobby with a set of free item rolls waiting.

How you know it worked: the on-screen text switches to a tutorial complete message and a Roll Item prompt appears. If it does not, you are still short of three goals — own goals and goals scored by teammates do not close it out.

How a live match is structured

Servers hold 8 players. You pick Red or Blue, the pitch marks your side with a colored ring under your feet, and a clock runs down while both teams try to out-score each other. Sabotage applies to everyone on the field, including your own teammates, so a stray shot is never a foul.

Coins pay out at the end of the round based on the result, and those Coins fund item rolls in the shop. Illegal Soccer is free to play, with no purchase required to reach any of that.

Sprinting runs off four stamina pips. Empty them and you are stranded until they refill, which is usually when someone slides through you. Short bursts, not full-length runs, keep a bar in reserve for the moment the ball turns over.

Item boxes, loadouts, and rolls

A colored block with a question mark spawns on the pitch periodically. Only one exists at a time, so both teams race for it. Walking into it hands you an item from your equipped loadout, which holds up to three entries.

Three items are unlocked by default. Everything else comes from rolling in the Daily Shop with Coins, where the pool includes Barricades, Energy Drink, Forcefield, Supercharge, Grappling Hook, Magnet, Oil Spill, Shotgun, Flintlock, Landmines, Rocket Punch, Bazooka, Freeze Gun, and Jetpack. Rarity matters — the Jetpack sits at a 1.0% Mythic drop rate and Rocket Punch at 4.7% Epic.

Build the loadout around how you play rather than which item looks strongest.

ItemWhen it pays offWasted when
JetpackBeating a slide or reaching a ball you cannot sprint toUsed at midfield, leaving you away from the play
Rocket PunchRemoving the one opponent creating the scoring threatFired at the nearest body instead of the dangerous one
ForcefieldAbsorbing an incoming hit while you carry the ballPopped before anyone is actually attacking
BarricadeBlocking a shooting lane in front of your own netPlaced where it blocks your keeper’s view or your teammates
Oil SpillCutting a passing lane in your own thirdDropped where your own ball is about to travel
LandminesDenying a predictable approach route to goalA teammate walks into it first

Note: aggressive players get more out of weapons, while defensive players get more out of barricades and hazards. A gun in every slot means you will rarely be the one taking a shot on goal.

Scoring against a goalkeeper

Any player can become the goalkeeper by stepping into the rectangle in front of the net, and only one player holds the role at a time. Controls change while you are in there — you can catch the ball, punch attackers, and throw it out to a teammate.

That makes a straight shot at a centered keeper the worst option on the field. Aim for the upper corners instead, and if the keeper is already shading one side, pass across to change the angle rather than adding power. The reliable sequence is to carry just far enough to pull a defender, pass to a teammate off the keeper’s strong side, keep moving, and let them finish into the open corner.

The charged kick, held on left click, is harder to place but sends the ball a long way. Treat it as an escape when you are surrounded with no passing lane, not as a default shot.

Tackling carries a cost. After a slide, your character locks into a short recovery animation that kills your momentum entirely. Miss the tackle and the attacker walks past you with nothing behind them, so only commit when you are clearly in range.

Use the practice area before you queue

Cross to the far side of the lobby hub to reach the practice area. There is an AI goalkeeper to shoot against and space to test mystery cubes, so you can learn how a Forcefield or Rocket Punch behaves without handing the opposing team a goal. A few minutes spent on corner shots and on the timing of a slide is usually enough to stop hunting for keys mid-match.

One more habit worth building at kickoff — the E prompt appears the moment play starts, and timing it correctly steals the ball outright before the other team touches it.

Repotted has an ILLEGAL UPDATE 2 event listed for the Roblox experience page on Tuesday, September 8 at 7:00 PM, with contents not yet detailed.
