Crimson Forest in Phantom Blade Zero wears you down with Butcher miasma and poison, and the Preservation Jar accessory is the direct counter to that. You don’t buy it or craft it. You assemble it from two halves of a broken talisman, and both halves are close to the Outlaw Trap bell.
Quick answer: A table at the Butcher’s camp holds Fragment I; the camp is west of the Outlaw Trap bell. Find Fragment II in the second Butcher’s yard in Crimson Forest. Collecting both combines them into the Preservation Jar, lowering poison damage taken by 50%.
What the Preservation Jar does
The Preservation Jar is a Defensive accessory. It halves the poison damage you take, which matters most in Crimson Forest, where the Butchers keep poison and miasma ticking on you. Here is how its item card reads in game:
- Category: “Defensive”
- Name: “PRESERVATION JAR”
- Effect: “Reduces poison damage taken by 50%.”
- “Food stored within this jar remains fresh, making it a favorite among butchers.”
- “If placed amid heaps of rot and filth, it might produce a curious effect.”

For the Butchers themselves and how their poison works, the Butcher fight guide covers both encounters you pass through on the way to the fragments.

The Crimson Forest Tunnel Crank is at the same camp, so you can pick up both in a single visit.

Preservation Talisman Fragment II location
Fragment II is the talisman’s lower piece, found in the second Butcher’s yard at the far end of the plank walkway spanning the hound pit.

Next to that card, the pickup list shows “PRESERVATION TALISMAN FRAGMENT II -1” and “PRESERVATION TALISMAN FRAGMENT I -1”. That’s the game consuming both halves at the same moment to build the jar.

How to equip the Preservation Jar
There’s no crafting menu involved. Picking up Fragment II with Fragment I already in your bag combines them on the spot, and the PRESERVATION JAR card asks “Equip the new Accessory now?”
Choose yes to bring up the slot picker, which shows three accessory slots and the prompt “Equip accessory to empty slot.” Select a slot to equip the jar.

You can also equip it later through the accessory slots in the Character menu. It is listed with the rest in the full accessories list.
