Quagmire Powder in Windrose: Where to farm it and how to craft Mire Metal Ingots

Quagmire Powder is a common crafting resource in Windrose, harvested almost entirely from the Plague enemies that roam the Cursed Swamps. It pairs with Ancient Scraps at a Large Smelting Furnace to produce Mire Metal Ingots, the metal tier that unlocks enchanting, weapon upgrades, and most endgame progression.

Quick answer: Travel to the Cursed Swamps (the third biome, reached after defeating the Foothills boss), kill Plague Thralls, Hunters, Warriors, or Witches, then smelt 1 Quagmire Powder + 2 Ancient Scraps into 1 Mire Metal Ingot at a Large Smelting Furnace.

Reaching the Cursed Swamps

The Cursed Swamps sit behind the Foothills biome, typically opening up as the third region you can sail to. You need to clear the second major boss before the swamp becomes accessible, and most players encounter the zone to the south of the jungle/Foothills cluster on their procedurally generated map.

Enemies here start around level 12 and hit harder than anything in the earlier biomes. Ranged weapons work well against the slower Plague mobs, and a Fast Travel Bell placed near the swamp entrance makes resupply trips far less painful.

Plague enemy drops

Every enemy in the Plague tribe drops Quagmire Powder on death, and elite (starred) variants drop more per kill. Plague Thralls and Plague Hunters are guaranteed drops, while Warriors and Witches have a high but not certain chance. One-star Warriors and two-star Thralls have been observed dropping two powder per kill.

EnemyDrop amountDrop chanceNotes
Plague Thrall1–2100%Slow melee mob, two blocks; easy farming target
Plague Hunter1–2100%Common in deeper swamp
Plague Warrior1–275%Tougher, often guards Ancient Scraps ruins
Plague Witch1–275%Efficient sustained farm target

Plague enemies respawn after several in-game days, so the swamps remain a renewable source once you have cleared an area.

Chest and POI sources

Points of interest in the Cursed Swamps hold sizable caches of Quagmire Powder, often 7 to 11 units per container. The catch is that these chests do not respawn once looted, so treat them as a one-time boost rather than a farm.

Ruined swamp settlements and priestess hut clusters are the most productive sweeps. Forgotten/Ancient Ruins tied to the swamp questline also hand out larger stacks as you progress.

Crafting Mire Metal Ingots

The only documented recipe that consumes Quagmire Powder is the Mire Metal Ingot, smelted at the Large Smelting Furnace. The furnace itself requires 20 Hewn Stone, 10 Foothills Iron Ingot, and 20 Clay to build, works outdoors only, and must sit within Bonfire range.

Ancient Scraps come from breaking Ancient Debris inside small ruin POIs in the swamp, usually guarded by Plague Warriors. You cannot bulk-mine them the way you farmed earlier ores, so plan combat around each cleared ruin.

What Mire Metal Ingots unlock

Mire Metal is the gating material for most late-game systems. Without a steady Quagmire Powder supply, these upgrades stall out.

Mire Metal is also required for final weapon tiers and ship upgrades, which is why farming Quagmire Powder in volume pays off well into the endgame.

Efficient farming route

Step 1: Drop a Fast Travel Bell at the swamp's entry point so you can warp home to offload and resupply without losing progress through the zone.

Step 2: Sweep Plague Witches first (they drop 1–2 each and are less tanky than Hunters), then hit Warriors and Thralls on the way through. Elite starred variants are worth the extra time.

Step 3: Clear any ruin POIs you pass for Ancient Scraps and the Quagmire Powder chests inside. Keep the Scraps-to-Powder ratio in mind — you need twice as many Scraps as Powder for ingots.

Step 4: Return to a Large Smelting Furnace and queue Mire Metal Ingots in stacks. A typical run yields 10–20 Quagmire Powder, enough for 10–20 ingots if your Ancient Scraps reserve keeps up.

Quagmire Powder stacks to 30, carries no weight, and sits at Item Level 3, so hoarding is cheap. Plan each swamp run around Plague mobs plus a ruin or two, keep Ancient Scraps flowing in parallel, and the Mire Metal bottleneck disappears before the Forgotten Ruins questline pushes you deeper.
