Out of Love is one of three pillory activities in Bakir’s Court, and it is the shortest of the group. There is no puzzle, no hidden objective and no timer once you arrive. You walk into a backyard in the middle of Svartrau City, tell the guards you are freeing the man in the stocks, and then kill everyone who objects.
Quick answer: Find the pillory in a backyard near the centre of Svartrau City, pick “I’m setting this man free.” in the conversation, kill the guards, then interact with the pillory to release the captive. The activity costs 3 time segments and pays 100 XP plus 1 skill point.
Out of Love location in Svartrau City
The pillory sits in an enclosed backyard roughly in the middle of Svartrau City, marked by a small crowd standing around a man locked in the stocks. Like every Court Activity, it shows up in the Court menu as an unknown entry until you physically find it, so it will not be waiting on your map from the start. Climbing the towers first is the fastest way to fill in white question mark icons across the region, including this one.
Bakir’s territory is tuned for level 20 and up, so this is not something to attempt straight out of the prologue. Coen also hits considerably harder at night with claws, and Shadowstep makes the city rooftops trivial to cross, which matters more than usual here.
Note: once your Infamy climbs high enough, the ninth Edict shuts the Svartrau City gates entirely. After that point the only way in is over the walls at night, so it is worth clearing this pillory before your Infamy gets that far.

How to confirm the activity is finished
The moment the closing conversation ends you get a “QUEST ENDED” banner, followed by the XP payout. Around this stage of Bakir’s region that award is often enough to trip a level-up notification on the spot. Check the Court menu afterwards and the entry should be marked complete, with Bakir’s Anger meter nudged upward.
If nothing registers, the usual reason is that a guard is still alive somewhere in the yard, or that you left the area before unlocking the stocks. Killing the guards alone does not close the activity — the pillory interaction does.

Rewards and time cost
Time in The Blood of Dawnwalker is spent rather than passed, so every activity has a fixed price against your 30 in-game days. Out of Love charges the standard rate.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Court | Bakir (level 20+) |
| Location | Backyard in central Svartrau City |
| Time cost | 3 time segments |
| XP | 100 |
| Other reward | 1 skill point |
How the three pillories compare
All three pillories follow the same shape — investigate, fight, free the man — but two of them carry something extra that Out of Love does not.
| Activity | Location | Extra outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Out of Love | Central Svartrau City backyard | None |
| Familiar Face | Southern main road in Parlita, yellow “!” icon | Frees Vasil from the starting village |
| Old Hand | In front of Lunar Manor | Choosing “I’m not letting anyone hurt this man” starts Catalin’s Tutor, unlocking a Swordmastery teacher |
The pillories together account for 9 of the 33 time segments in Bakir’s activity list. You do not need every activity to draw him out — roughly three quarters of them will max his Anger and hand you The Lunar Game, the quest that ends with the duel at Lunar Manor.
Because it is city-based and costs the same three segments as everything else in Bakir’s list, Out of Love is one of the easier activities to fold into a Svartrau trip alongside shopping or perk purchases. Clear it early, while the gates are still open, and it becomes three segments you never have to spend climbing a wall at night to reclaim.
