Hildir’s Silver Chest drops from Geirrhafa, the mini-boss waiting at the end of a Howling Cavern in the Mountain biome. It has no use on its own, no crafting recipe, and no storage function. Its only purpose is to be carried back to Hildir, the Dvergr trader who lost it, which permanently expands what she sells.
Quick answer: Sail the Silver Chest to Hildir’s camp in the Meadows, put it in a hotbar slot, then use the Give item prompt on Hildir to unlock her silver-tier clothing stock.
Hildir’s Silver Chest: Weight, drop source, and transport limits
The chest is a quest item with the description “Property of Hildir, please return if found.” Everything about moving it is dictated by two numbers and one restriction.
| Property | Detail |
|---|---|
| Dropped by | Geirrhafa |
| Found in | Howling Caverns, Mountain biome |
| Weight | 200.0 |
| Stack size | 1 |
| Regular portals | Cannot be teleported |
| Portal stone | Can be teleported |
That 200 weight eats most of a normal carrying capacity, so a Megingjord helps and you will likely leave cavern loot behind on the trip out. Unless you already have access to the Ashlands-tier Portal stone, the chest goes home the slow way, on foot and by ship.
Before you enter the cavern, build a Karve at the nearest landing spot and mark it on your map. You will be walking back to it overloaded.

Hildir always settles in a Meadows biome, and only one instance of her exists per world. Her camp is a small point of interest with a large wagon, tents, barrels, divans and her own Iron Fire Pit, ringed by a shimmering dome that creatures cannot enter.
- There are 10 possible spawn points, each at least 1000 meters apart.
- All of them sit between roughly 3000 and 5100 meters from the world center, so she rarely appears on your starting island.
- The first candidate location you approach becomes her permanent home; the others stop existing.
- Once discovered, a dress icon labelled HILDIR appears on your world map.
- Sailing along the coastline of large Meadows islands is the fastest way to trigger that icon.

Drop a regular portal just outside her dome the first time you find her. The chest itself cannot pass through it, but everything else about the return trip gets easier.
How to turn in the Silver Chest

E by default, to bring up her prompts. Choose Give item and select the hotbar slot holding the Silver Chest.
Only one chest of each type can be returned. A second Silver Chest from another Howling Cavern unlocks nothing extra, so treat spare caverns as loot runs only.
How to confirm the turn-in worked
Three things change immediately. Hildir responds with a line of dialogue, “That one must have been a challenge, but you won’t regret it!”, the chest itself appears sitting open inside her tent, and your inventory logs “Removed Hildir’s Silver Chest”.
Interact with her again and pick the store option. The silver-tier clothing now sits alongside her default stock, which is the definitive confirmation that the quest registered.

What the Silver Chest unlocks in Hildir’s shop
Everything the Silver Chest adds is cosmetic clothing that occupies the chest armor slot. The dresses and tunics give 1 armor and a 20 percent reduction in base item stamina use; the headwear gives 1 armor and a 15 percent reduction.
| Item | Coins |
|---|---|
| Blue Dress with Shawl | 450 |
| Brown Dress with Shawl | 450 |
| Yellow Dress with Shawl | 450 |
| Blue Tunic with Cape | 450 |
| Red Tunic with Cape | 450 |
| Yellow Tunic with Cape | 450 |
| Extravagant Green Cap | 250 |
| Green Twisted Headscarf | 250 |
| Yellow Tied Headscarf | 250 |
Coins come from dungeon chests and from selling valuables directly to her. Amber sells for 5, Amber Pearls for 10, Rubies for 20 and Silver Necklaces for 30, so a full clothing set is a real investment.
The base raid that starts after you return the chest
Handing over a chest switches on a new random event tied to that dungeon. Once the Silver Chest is delivered, Geirrhafa and his minions can invade your base, and the same applies to Brenna and to Zil and Thungr after their chests go back.
That is the main reason not to rush the turn-in while under-geared. If your defenses and equipment are around Plains tier, with Black Metal weapons and Padded armor, the raid is a manageable fight rather than a recurring disaster. Otherwise, clear the cavern, hold the chest, and deliver it when your base can take the hit.
