The Odd Tome is the summoning item you need to call the Frieren boss in Lineage Piece, added with Update 12 alongside Elysian Island. It cannot be bought from an NPC and does not drop from ordinary enemies. The only way to get one is to break open a Mimic Chest, and every Mimic Chest you defeat hands over an Odd Tome.
Quick answer: Open normal treasure chests across the islands. Each chest has a 40% chance to turn into a Mimic Chest, and every Mimic Chest drops one Odd Tome at a 100% rate. Farm chests until one becomes a Mimic, defeat it, and the Odd Tome is yours.
Where the Odd Tome comes from
The Odd Tome is tied entirely to Mimic Chests. A Mimic Chest is not a fixed spawn you can walk up to. It is created when a regular treasure chest transforms into a hostile enemy the moment you interact with it.
Each normal chest you open has a 40% chance to become a Mimic Chest instead of giving you standard loot. When it does, it turns into a boss enemy with 50,000 HP that you have to fight. Beat that Mimic and it drops exactly one Odd Tome, every time.

Chests do not despawn once they appear, so nothing is lost if you cannot reach one right away. New chests cycle back roughly every four minutes, which keeps the farm moving as you travel.

Chests are spread across the map, and the number per island is what makes route farming worthwhile. Most islands hold a single chest, while Elysian Island and Shinjuku each hold two. Lineage Town is the exception and has none.
| Location | Chests |
|---|---|
| Elysian Island | 2 |
| Shinjuku | 2 |
| Most other islands | 1 each |
| Lineage Town | 0 |
Because Elysian Island and Shinjuku double up, they give you the most chest checks per visit and are the best anchors for a farming loop.
How to farm an Odd Tome
[E] | Treasure Collect prompt to open it. A regular open gives you loot like Summon Cores, Reroll Essence, or Haki Color Rerolls.
You will know it worked when the Obtained x1 Odd Tome popup appears and the item shows up in your Storage inventory, listed alongside materials like Lineage Ore and Mythical Ore.
What the Odd Tome is used for
The Odd Tome exists to summon the Frieren boss. Each summon costs one Odd Tome along with 1,000 Gems and 75,000 Coins, so you will need a fresh Tome for every attempt. That means repeat runs of the Frieren fight call for repeat Mimic Chest farming.
Defeating Frieren yields the drops needed to progress her weapon, which is sold by the Frieren NPC on Elysian Island. Keep in mind that buying and fully using that weapon carries its own Elf race requirement and separate mastery quests, but none of that changes how you obtain the Tome itself.
Note: Because Mimic transformations are a 40% roll per chest, expect some chests to open normally. Keep looping between islands, let the four-minute cycle refresh your options, and a Mimic will eventually appear to hand over the Odd Tome.
