Grand Blue: How to Cheese Axe Hand Logan for a Fast Kill

The fence trick that keeps the Tyrannical Captain from touching you, plus how to confirm the kill registered.

Axe Hand Logan sits in the marine base courtyard in Grand Blue, and he is not a boss you can stand still and trade hits with. He carries the Tyrannical Captain title, hits hard at close range, and can end an under-leveled run in seconds. There is a much cheaper way to take him down: a fence on the edge of the courtyard that he cannot get through.

Quick answer: Hit Axe Hand Logan once to pull his aggro, run left to the stone wall, climb it, and jump over the metal fence. From behind the fence, damage him with your abilities only — never M1 — until his health bar empties.

How to cheese Axe Hand Logan behind the fence

Walk into the marine base courtyard and get close enough to Axe Hand Logan that your quest tracker registers him. The objective counter should read 0/1 while he is still standing.

Land a single hit on him to pull aggro. One hit is enough — you only need him to start chasing you, so do not stay and fight.
Immediately run left toward the stone wall at the edge of the courtyard. Climb the wall and jump over the metal fence on the other side.
Turn around and face him through the fence. He will path up to the barrier and stop there, unable to reach you, which is what makes the whole thing work.

Fire off your abilities through the fence and keep repeating them as they come off cooldown. His health bar drains steadily and he has no way to punish you for it.

Do not use M1 attacks near the fence

This is the one mistake that ruins the whole setup. Your M1 (light attack) can break the fence, and once the barrier is gone, Axe Hand Logan walks straight through the gap and starts hitting you. Stick to abilities for every point of damage you deal from behind the fence.

Note: If the fence does break, you are back in a normal fight with a boss designed around blocking and dodging. Retreat, let the aggro reset, and start again from the aggro pull rather than trying to brawl him in the open.

How to confirm the kill and quest registered

When Axe Hand Logan goes down, a Quest Completed! notification appears and the objective counter clears. You will also see EXP and Beli added, and any skills you leaned on during the fight can rank up with their own on-screen messages, such as Punch Barrage Level Increased! (1 -> 2) or Shoulder Charge Level Increased! (1 -> 2).

If you do not get the completion message, the kill did not credit to you. The usual cause is that the boss reset and healed off, or another player finished him first, so re-pull him and run the fence setup again.

Treasure Map (Easy) drop and where to take the chest

Along with EXP and Beli, Axe Hand Logan can drop a Treasure Map (Easy), described in your inventory as “Hopefully something good is at the end of this.” Opening it brings up a map view with a red X marking a dig site in Anchor Town.

Head to that X, equip a shovel — a Rusty Shovel works — and dig up the buried chest. Carry it to Blacksmith Shinosaki in Anchor Town, who greets you with “What do ya want, kiddo?”, and handing it over pushes the Cabin’s Treasure quest forward with a Treasure Hunt Progressed notification.

The fence trick is the fastest, lowest-risk way to clear this boss while you are still building stats and skill slots early on, and it costs nothing but patience while your cooldowns cycle. It is also worth learning the fight properly at some point, since Grand Blue‘s later bosses lean on blocking, dodging, and crew coordination rather than terrain you can hide behind.
