How to Get Dreadscale in Steal An Egg

The exact drop paths, hatch odds, and Mecha upgrade for the Divine monster pet worth $8 billion per second.

The exact drop paths, hatch odds, and Mecha upgrade for the Divine monster pet worth $8 billion per second.

Dreadscale is the rarest pet tied to Steal An Egg’s Monster Update, a Divine-rarity creature that earns roughly $8 billion. It only comes out of the Monstrous Egg, and even then it sits at the very bottom of the hatch pool. If you want it, you either pay Robux for the egg directly or grind the limited-time Hungry Monster event for a chance at one.

Quick answer: Hatch a Monstrous Egg (also called the Monster Egg) to roll Dreadscale at a 0.5% chance. Buy the egg for 39 Robux in the Shop, or feed five Infested Eggs to the Hungry Monster to earn a Monster Chest, which has a 1.5% chance of dropping a Monstrous Egg.

The two ways to reach the Monstrous Egg

Dreadscale never drops on its own. It hatches only from the Monstrous Egg, so every path to the pet is really a path to that egg first. There are two reliable routes, and one costs Robux while the other costs time.

RouteCostChance to get the egg
Buy the Monster Egg in the Shop39 RobuxGuaranteed egg
Monster Chest from the Hungry Monster eventFive Infested Eggs per chest1.5% per chest

Buying the egg is the fastest route because you skip the chest lottery entirely. The free route is slower and layered, since you first have to earn Monster Chests, then hope one contains a Monstrous Egg, then hope that egg hatches Dreadscale.

Monstrous Egg hatch odds

The Monstrous Egg holds six pets. Dreadscale has the lowest chance of the group, so even with the egg in hand you should expect several hatches before it appears. Every pet from this egg comes with the Monstrous mutation applied.

KrakenoidEternal6.5%

On top of any hatch, there is a separate 1% chance for a Mecha Re-roll that flips whatever pet you just got into its Mecha form. That makes a Mecha Dreadscale the single hardest pull from this egg.

Free route: earning Monstrous Eggs through the Hungry Monster event

The Hungry Monster event is the no-Robux path to a Monstrous Egg. It runs for a limited window, so this route closes when the event ends. During the event you collect Infested Eggs and feed them to a Hungry Monster (also called the Hungry Frog) standing next to the Sell Shop.

Find an Infested Egg. These look like normal biome eggs but have a small purple parasite sitting on top. They can spawn in the Snow, Volcano, Abyss Ocean, Prehistoric, Cosmic, Cherry Blossom, and Titan Temple biomes whenever eggs reset.

Steal the Infested Egg the same way you take any other egg. Grab it and outrun the biome’s guardian back to your base.
Equip the Infested Egg, stand in the circle beneath the Hungry Monster near the Sell Shop, and hold the interact button to feed it. On PC that is holding E; on mobile it is the Feed Parasite button.
Repeat until the meter is full. Each Infested Egg fills 20% of the hunger meter, so five eggs complete it and pop out a Monster Chest. The meter resets after each chest, and you can start feeding again right away.

Caution: Feeding an egg to the Hungry Monster destroys it permanently. Never hand over an egg you would rather hatch and keep.

What the Monster Chest can drop

Only one of the Monster Chest’s rewards moves you toward Dreadscale, and it is the rarest of the bunch. Most opens hand you short boosts instead, so plan for a lot of chests before a Monstrous Egg appears.

RewardChance
1.25x Egg Growth for 5 minutes43.5%
1.25x Speed for 5 minutes30%
2x Treadmill Speed for 5 minutes20%
Flyswatter5%
Monstrous Egg1.5%

The Monstrous Egg pulled from a chest arrives with the Monstrous mutation already applied. From there, it follows the same 0.5% hatch chance for Dreadscale as any other Monstrous Egg.

How to get Mecha Dreadscale

Mecha Dreadscale is the upgraded form and currently carries the highest earnings rate of any Mecha pet, ahead of Mecha Crocodon and Mecha Krakenoid. It is bigger than the standard version and generates noticeably more income.

You cannot target it directly. It only appears when the 1% Mecha Re-roll triggers on the same hatch that gives you a Dreadscale. In other words, you need the 0.5% Dreadscale roll and the 1% Mecha flip to land together, which is why it is the toughest pull in the egg.

How to confirm you got Dreadscale

You will know the hatch worked when a Divine-rarity Dreadscale appears in your pet index and pen after the Monstrous Egg opens. If it came out as a Mecha, the model is visibly larger than the normal variant. Any pet from this egg also shows the Monstrous mutation, so that tag alone does not confirm Dreadscale; only the Divine rarity label and the pet name do.

Because Dreadscale sits at a 0.5% hatch rate, the most common reason players fail to get it is simply not opening enough Monstrous Eggs. There is no quest, no crafting recipe, and no guaranteed unlock. The only lever you control is how many Monstrous Eggs you hatch, whether you buy them for 39 Robux each or grind Monster Chests before the Hungry Monster event ends.
