Stalker 2: How to Get the Luftgarde DMR in Cost of Hope

The exact route through the Iron Forest, the artifact you need, and the weapon stats waiting at the end.

The exact route through the Iron Forest, the artifact you need, and the weapon stats waiting at the end.

The Luftgarde is a unique DMR added in the Cost of Hope DLC for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. It sits in a hidden underground room in the Iron Forest, behind a Mercury anomaly that you can only pass with one specific artifact equipped. Reach that room, and you also pick up a SEVA suit sitting beside the gun.

Quick answer: Get the Water Drop artifact, equip it in an artifact slot, then backtrack to the unmarked building you exited during the Distant Mirage mission. Descend the staircases to the underground monorail station, clear a Vortex anomaly with a bolt, and pass through the Mercury wall to loot the Luftgarde from the table inside.

What you need before you go

The only hard requirement is the Water Drop artifact. Without it equipped, the Mercury anomaly (the black goo) blocks the doorway to the room, and there is no other way through.

How you obtain the Water Drop depends on which faction path you followed in the DLC.

RouteHow to get the Water Drop
FreedomCompleting the Dangerous Way mission, where collecting the artifact is a required objective.
DutyHead to the DPP-2 building in the CNPP region. The artifact is directly west of the Water Treatment Plant.

Note: If you already sold your Water Drop, you can still get another one and return. Keep one in your inventory or stash until you have the Luftgarde, since it is easy to offload artifacts for coupons without realizing this one has a second use.

Where the Luftgarde is located

The weapon is beneath the unmarked building you exited at the end of the Distant Mirage main mission, in the southern part of the Iron Forest. There is no map marker for it, so you are backtracking to a place you have already been.

How to reach and loot the Luftgarde

Equip the Water Drop artifact in one of your artifact slots before you head down. You need it active to get through the Mercury wall at the end.

Travel to the unmarked building in the southern Iron Forest, the same one you used to exit during Distant Mirage. Enter the door and follow the path inside.
Turn left and head down the staircase, then descend a second spiral staircase. This brings you to the catwalk of an underground monorail station.
Move to the right of the catwalk. Throw a bolt to disable the Vortex anomaly in your way so you can proceed. If the anomaly pulls you down to the lower ground, climb back up and continue.
Go through the door on the right side of the catwalk. With the Water Drop equipped, the wall of Mercury opens up and lets you into the secret room.
Head to the far end of the room. The Luftgarde is on the table, with a SEVA suit sitting nearby. Grab both before you leave.

Tip: There can be a burer waiting in the underground area, so approach ready for a fight.

The Luftgarde is one of several unique weapons available regardless of which faction you side with, so you do not have to pick Freedom or Duty specifically to add it to your collection. Once you have the Water Drop and clear the underground route, the gun is a guaranteed pickup that stays in your inventory for the rest of the DLC.
