Tantari Tower is one of the 11 scouting towers scattered across Vale Sangora, and like the rest of them it is a night job. Coen cannot pull himself up the outside of it as a human, so the climb only works once the sun is down and his vampiric traversal is available.

Quick answer: Travel to the tower northwest of Tantari Woods after nightfall, Shadowstep onto the wooden boards bolted to the stone pillar, then Planeshift up the walls to the survey point at the summit. Looting the tower gives you the Lasting Medication Manual.

Tantari Tower location and requirements

The tower stands northwest of Tantari Woods, on high rocky ground above the Withered Gorge and The Silts. Open the world map and zoom into that stretch of the valley and the marker sits on its own, away from any settlement. There is a small wayside shrine nearby, which makes a convenient fast-travel anchor before you set off on foot.

You need to be past the prologue and to have unlocked the vampiric traversal abilities before the climb is possible. Two matter here: Shadowstep, the short-range teleport that snaps Coen to ledges he cannot jump to, and Planeshift, which lets him walk up vertical surfaces.

The route up the tower

Start from the shrine in The Silts and follow the waypoint toward the peak. The ground here is broken and foggy at night, so keep the marker on screen rather than trying to eyeball the tower through the mist.

Climb the rocky path up the cliffside until you are level with the base of the tall stone pillar. The wooden scaffolding strapped to that pillar is your ladder, and reaching it on foot saves stamina you will want later.

Aim at the wooden boards and cast Shadowstep to snap onto the first platform. Repeat this for each set of planks above you, using the boards as staging posts rather than trying to make the whole height in one go.

Where the scaffolding runs out, switch to Planeshift and walk up the stone walls to the next ledge. Keep an eye on your stamina bar and break the wall-walking into short runs, landing on ledges in between.
At the summit, press the button prompt at the survey spot to scan the landscape. Coen picks out Tantari, the Tatar village, as the camera sweeps the surrounding mountains and forests.

How to know the survey worked

Two things confirm it. The camera sweep plays and Coen comments on the view, and when you next open the world map, new activities, locations, and points of interest have been filled in around the region. Reaching the top also unlocks the Bird’s Eye View trophy.

Before you drop back down, sweep the tower for containers. The chest here holds the Lasting Medication Manual, which teaches a new skill, and every scouting tower with a reward follows the same pattern.

Why the climb fails

  • You are attempting it during the day. Shadowstep and Planeshift are night abilities, and there is no human route to the summit.
  • You are trying to Planeshift the full wall in one stretch. Stamina runs out mid-climb, so break it up with the wooden boards and ledges.
  • You approached from below the cliff instead of running the rocky path up to the pillar first, which puts the scaffolding out of Shadowstep range.

Note: Scouting towers do not consume any of your 30 days and nights, so there is no penalty for clearing them early. If you have the traversal skills and a free evening, you can chain Tantari with the other towers and light up most of the map before your next story quest.
