The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Scout St. Tyna’s Grove Tower

The night-only climb route, the exact survey prompts, and every item waiting in the tower's chest.

The night-only climb route, the exact survey prompts, and every item waiting in the tower’s chest.

St. Tyna’s Grove Tower is one of the 11 Scouting Towers scattered across Vale Sangora in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it sits on the eastern side of the world map. Reaching the top marks nearby activities and locations on your map, including St. Tyna’s Convent, and there is a chest tucked inside the structure that most players climb straight past.

Quick answer: Travel to the hill west of the Pilgrim’s Trail shrine at night, scale the rock formations and scaffolding to the summit, then press the survey prompt on each highlighted point on the horizon until the map fills with new question mark icons.

St. Tyna’s Grove Tower location and approach

The tower stands on a hill west of the Pilgrim’s Trail shrine, inside the St. Tyna’s Grove region. On the wider map it falls between one of Ambrus’ outposts and an Ancient Circle, which makes those two markers the easiest anchors if you are navigating by memory rather than fast travel.

Undead enemies patrol the ground around the base. You do not have to fight any of them. Climbing the rock formations on the approach keeps you above the patrol route, and from there you can Shadowstep directly onto the tower structure.

Why the tower can only be climbed at night

Scouting Towers are night-only content. The ledges and outer walls are built around vampiric traversal, so you need Shadowstep to teleport up and Planeshift to walk along vertical surfaces. During daylight hours those powers are unavailable and there is no alternative climbing route.

You can skip most of the platforming entirely. Enter Focus Mode, look directly at the top of the tower, and hold the Shadowstep input to teleport straight to the activation point rather than working up board by board.

Note: Scouting does not advance the in-game clock. Because the towers cost you no time, it is practical to tag several of them, or all 11, during a single night.

Climbing to the summit and surveying the horizon

Follow the rocky path at the tower’s base and pull yourself onto the wooden scaffolding braced against the outer wall. This is the safest line up because it keeps you clear of the Undead below.
Work up the remaining wooden platforms until you reach the open summit. Shadowstep covers any gap where a jump falls short.

At the top, look out over the landscape and press the button prompt on each highlighted spot. St. Tyna’s Convent is one of the landmarks you can pick out from here. Every prompt you press adds more markers to the world map, so sweep the full horizon before dropping back down.

Chest loot inside the tower

Once the survey is done, drop through the opening into the tower’s interior platforms instead of leaving the way you came. The chest sits on one of the wooden levels partway down.

Break the barrels stacked around the interior before you leave. They hold the food items listed above, which is worth a few seconds given you are already inside.

Getting out means picking your way through the broken wooden framework to an opening, then dropping down the mountain path outside. Enemies are visible in the distance on the descent, so plan your route down rather than falling into a group.

How to confirm the scout registered

Open the world map after climbing down. If the survey took, question mark icons will have appeared across the surrounding region, and the tower itself shows a white tower icon. Those question marks resolve into Sacred Stones, Ancient Circles, Haunted Sites and similar points of interest once you visit them.

Two things stop the tower from counting. Arriving in daylight leaves you without Shadowstep, so you never reach the activation point. And simply standing on the summit is not enough on its own, since the map only updates when you press the prompt on each survey spot.

This is one of 11 towers in total, and clearing all of them while scouting from each summit unlocks the Bird’s-Eye View trophy, worth 20 Gamerscore on Xbox. Since none of the climbs push the clock forward, tagging St. Tyna’s Grove Tower early in a night is one of the cheapest ways to open up the eastern half of Vale Sangora.
