Valheim: How to Open the Aesir Passage and Summon Kall Fimbulbringer

The full offering loop that unlocks the Deep North boss door and drops you in front of Valheim's final Jotun.

The full offering loop that unlocks the Deep North boss door and drops you in front of Valheim’s final Jotun.

The Aesir Passage is the sealed boss door in Valheim’s Deep North, and it hides Kall Fimbulbringer, the frost giant who serves as the game’s final boss. You can’t just walk up and knock. The door only opens after you feed three Malicious Blood into the Strange Bowl sitting at its base, and each of those offerings takes a full loop of dungeon-crawling and invasion-fighting to earn.

Quick answer: Offer three Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl beside the Aesir Passage. Each Malicious Blood comes from crafting an Intricate Key, using it to open a Mörkhalla dungeon, smashing the Malice Ice at its bottom to trigger a Jotun Invasion, then traveling to that invasion and breaking the Malice Ice that spawns there. Repeat the loop three times.

What you need before opening the Aesir Passage

The offering loop leans on the Deep North’s new crafting chain, so a few stations and materials need to be in place first. Note that Memorial Coal found inside Mörkhalla does not work as an offering. Only Malicious Blood counts.

RequirementWhy it matters
Frigid Kiln (10 Frostcores, 20 Stone, 5 Ice)Turns Ice into Liquid Frost, the fuel for the Frost Foundry.
Frost Foundry (10 Frostcores, 15 Iron, 20 Stone)Finishes the Intricate Key from a seated cast.
Black ForgeCombines a mould with Bloodgold into a Cast: Intricate Key.
Eternal Pyre (Fader Relic, 10 Stone, Stonecutter)Produces Embers for Ember Charges.
Blast FurnaceSmelts Petrified Tissue into Bloodgold.
Black Metal PickaxeBreaks Malice Ice in dungeons and at invasion sites.

Frostcores come from the Winding Tunnels, and you’ll want roughly 20 to build both stations. Bloodgold is the recurring bottleneck. You get it by throwing Ember Charges at a Petrified Gammeltroll to knock loose Petrified Tissue, then smelting that tissue in a Blast Furnace. Each Intricate Key needs five Bloodgold, so the three-key route costs 15 Bloodgold in total.

Find the Aesir Passage with a Vegvisir

Special Vegvisir runestones scattered around the Deep North reveal boss locations, and one of them marks the Aesir Passage. These runes turn up near the passage itself, at the base of Mörkhalla fortresses, and beside Ancient Altars in the snow biome. Finding one takes some exploring, since placement varies by seed.

Interact with the Vegvisir and the Aesir Passage marker drops straight onto your map. Head to that marker and you’ll find the towering, locked boss door with a Strange Bowl waiting at its base.

Craft three Intricate Keys

Find three Intricate Key Moulds inside the Winding Tunnels. These dungeons sit under the largest building in an Abandoned Village, usually through a hole in the floor. The moulds are buried under breakable rubble, so clear each branch and smash the debris piles.
Bring a mould to a Black Forge and combine it with 5 Bloodgold to produce a Cast: Intricate Key. A mould is consumed when it becomes a cast, so one lucky drop cannot make all three keys.
Run Ice through the Frigid Kiln to make Liquid Frost. Place the cast into the Frost Foundry, supply it with Liquid Frost as fuel, and collect the finished Intricate Key. Repeat the process until you have three keys ready.

Break the Malice Ice in Mörkhalla to trigger a Jotun invasion

Locate a Gate of Mörkhalla, a tall stone structure in the tundra with no ground-level entrance. Use a Grappling Hook or a catapult to reach the top, then follow the stairs down to a chained door.
Use an Intricate Key on the chained door to open it. Work your way to the bottom of the labyrinth, clearing Krigens and Hexens along the way. These Jotun mobs hit hard, so bring your best gear and keep a clear retreat path.
Break the Malice Ice at the centre of the bottom floor with a Black Metal Pickaxe. Destroying the central chunk triggers the invasion and places a red exclamation marker somewhere on your world map. Before leaving, check the lower area for a Vegvisir that can mark the Aesir Passage.

Tip: Set down a protected portal and a chest of backup gear outside the Mörkhalla gate before you drop in. The dungeon is long, and a nearby recovery point makes a failed run far less punishing.

Halt the invasion and collect Malicious Blood

Open your map and travel to the flashing Jotun Invasion marker. It can appear well outside the Deep North, in the Plains, Mountains, Black Forest, or elsewhere, which is why a portal network saves a lot of walking.
Fight toward the centre of the marked circle, wiping out the Krigens and Hexens that ambush you. Defeating them all halts the invasion, and a new Malice Ice structure appears at the site.
Break the Malice Ice with your Black Metal Pickaxe to obtain one Malicious Blood. Store it safely, then run the entire loop two more times so you finish with three Malicious Blood in your inventory.

Offer three Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl

Return to the Aesir Passage marker and approach the Strange Bowl. Equip a Malicious Blood in one of your quick-slots, interact with the bowl, and press the corresponding button to make the offering. With all three offered, the ritual completes and the door opens, giving you access to Kall Fimbulbringer’s lair, called The Prison.

You’ll know it worked when the “Halt the invasion” prompt is satisfied and the sealed entrance swings open. If the bowl refuses the offering, you’re either short of the full three Malicious Blood or trying to feed it Memorial Coal, which is not a valid offering.

What waits inside The Prison

Step through the passage and you’ll see Kall Fimbulbringer across the room, chained to two pillars. Get close and he breaks free, immediately swinging the chains in lethal, hard-to-dodge blows. He carries 40,000 health, fights across two phases, and is the strongest opponent in the game, so refresh your food, resistance meads, and Forsaken power before approaching.

Beating him always drops Sacrificial Blood and the Crown Jewel. The Sacrificial Blood is the key item you carry back to the altar in the Meadows to finish the game, while the Crown Jewel unlocks the recipe for the Crown of Valheim and its peaceful Royalty effect.
