Michael Myers builds every match around his two fixed traits and three selectable abilities, and the strongest picks are the ones that keep his Shape Jump working when Civilians try to shut it down with light. The default trio does exactly that, which is why it stays on top of the meta.
Quick answer: Equip Reality Tear, Blackout, and Detection Pulse alongside Michael’s fixed traits, Killer Sense and Shape Jump. Together they give you information, darkness, and an escape or ambush tool on demand.

The meta Michael loadout at a look
Every Michael loadout is two starting traits plus three selectable abilities chosen from his unlockable pool. The three below cover the situations that decide most matches: finding hidden targets, killing the lights, and moving through the Shape when the rules say you cannot.
| Ability | What it does | Best moment |
|---|---|---|
| Reality Tear | Enters or exits Shape Jump anytime; staggers nearby targets | Spawn on players opening Escapes; break out of a mob |
| Blackout | Disables electronics, closes and unlocks doors in a radius | Kill lights for Shape Jump; stall a car or bike |
| Detection Pulse | Reveals nearby targets and occupied buildings, even hidden ones | Late game, when numbers thin or a target slips away |
All three carry lengthy cooldowns, so none of them should be pressed on repeat. Reality Tear in particular has the longest recharge of any Michael ability, which makes timing it correctly more important than firing it often.

Reality Tear
Reality Tear removes Shape Jump’s biggest limitation. Normally Michael can only slip into or out of the shadow form in darkness, out of sight, and away from people. Reality Tear lets him enter or exit at any moment, even while standing in the light or right next to a target, and it staggers anyone nearby when it fires.
Use it to ambush players camping under lights, to reach people mid-Context Execution, or to instantly appear on a target working an Escape. It also pulls Michael straight out of the downed state and lets him bail on a group of Civilians banding together, and it bypasses the standard Shape Jump cooldown.
The strongest sequence is entering Shape Jump to close distance, then tearing out directly behind a fleeing target and grabbing before they react.
Blackout
Blackout knocks out power in a radius, shutting down lights and electronics, closing open doors, and unlocking locked ones. Because darkness is what Shape Jump needs, this is your fastest way to open a sealed house for a jump without hunting down the power breaker.
- Unlock a locked building to enter or exit without Shape Jump.
- Counter Civilian flashlights and knock riders off bikes.
- Temporarily disable a running Sedan or Police Car so a melee hit finishes it faster.
- Slam open doors shut to trap targets inside or lock them out.
Blackout only lasts a short time. Anything it switches off, including car engines, powers back on after a few seconds, so line up your approach before you fire it.
Detection Pulse
Detection Pulse sends out a wave that highlights nearby targets within a radius and lights up occupied buildings, revealing anyone hiding inside. It is the information tool that stops Civilians from safely vanishing into houses.
Do not spam it early. At the start of a match almost every house is occupied, so a pulse tells you nothing useful. Save it for when the crowd thins, when a target slips away, or when you need to pinpoint the closest kill or read a group inside a building before committing. A recent update made Detection Pulse better at locating people tucked into Hiding Spots.

Killer Sense and Shape Jump, the two traits you always have
These two never take a loadout slot. They are why the selectable abilities matter, since the whole kit revolves around finding targets and moving through the dark.
Killer Sense switches Michael to a first-person view that sharpens awareness of nearby targets and lets you focus a Civilian to build Stalk. Use it to locate and stalk instead of rushing in blind. Stalking builds across three levels, weakening the target, marking them through walls, and unlocking stronger executions the higher it climbs.
Shape Jump is your main movement, letting Michael travel through shadows unseen and slip through doors and windows when the lights are off and nobody is watching. He cannot enter or exit while lit, seen, or standing too close to a target, which is the exact rule Blackout and Reality Tear are built to break.

Best starting weapon for Michael
Weapon choice rounds out the loadout. The Axe and Pickaxe are the two strongest picks. Both swing slower than other options but hit hard, and at Bloodthirst Tier 3 both land a reliable two-shot kill using only Heavy Attacks.
| Weapon | Profile | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Axe | Slow, high damage, long reach | Two-shot Heavy kills at Bloodthirst Tier 3 |
| Pickaxe | Same damage profile as the Axe | Breaking doors and wrecking vehicles |
| Hatchet | Throwable | A ranged option |
| Pitchfork | Throwable | A ranged option |
The Axe and Pickaxe both break down doors quickly and tear through Escape options like the Police Car and Sedan. Their only real weakness is the lack of a ranged attack, though their melee reach is longer than one-handed weapons, so you can catch targets slightly further out or clip several at once. If you want something you can throw instead, take the Hatchet or Pitchfork.
