The Chemist is a Lieutenant in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ. The fight takes place inside the radiation zone at Haneul Nuclear Reactor, so prepare for the radiation before you go in. The Chemist also appears during the Operation Fallen Ember story mission at the same reactor.

Quick answer: Take a Radiation Blockers before you enter Haneul Nuclear Reactor. Go into the warehouse next to the reactor tanks and clear the hazmat guards. Then kill the Chemist in the rear bay and loot the dog tag and the cache.

Chemist location at Haneul Nuclear Reactor

The compass marks Haneul Nuclear Reactor as HIGH threat. Its tac map symbol has a red center bordered by yellow, indicating the radiation zone. The Lieutenant marker is on the reactor’s eastern side, at the red core’s edge.

  • The building is a warehouse with blue-and-white metal panel walls, next to the reactor tanks.
  • Entry is through one door. Inside, you’ll find a yellow-striped floor, blue plastic drums, forklifts and metal shelving.
  • On reaching the warehouse, you’ll see a banner that reads LIEUTENANT / CHEMIST / HANEUL NUCLEAR REACTOR.
  • The edges of your screen and the minimap turn red while you are standing in radiation.

If you bought intel on the Chemist, the side op starts as “Paid Intel: Reach Chemist” with the objective “Reach the Lieutenant’s Location.” Once you arrive, it changes to “Paid Intel: Kill Chemist.” Intel is bought on the Boss Board, and the terminal on a Lieutenant Hunt tower marks the nearest Lieutenant on the tac map.

Radiation protection for the Chemist fight

Radiation Blockers are the item to stock up on. Each one protects you from radiation for a limited time, so plan on using one going in and another on the way out.

Take a Radiation Blockers from your backpack before entering the zone. Once inside, the HUD also displays a USE RADIATION BLOCKERS prompt. A vehicle lets you reach the reactor fence quickly. Pull up to it, then cross the fence on foot.

How to beat the Chemist in the reactor warehouse

Take a Radiation Blockers, get over the fence and make for the warehouse door beside the reactor tanks. Move fast; the effect is timed.
Deal with the guards at the doorway first; they have dark hazmat suits and gas masks. If your armor gets low, step back through the door to plate up, then re-enter.
Push through to the rear bay, where the Chemist stands among the forklifts and blue drums. The Chemist is easy to pick out from the guards by the yellow hazmat suit and full-face mask.
Aim through your optic and keep firing until the Chemist goes down.
Loot quickly and get out. The radiation keeps hurting you, so take another Radiation Blockers if the timer is about to run out.

A successful kill shows SIDE OP COMPLETE / PAID INTEL: KILL CHEMIST, with +500 XP on the side-op line. The kill popup reads ELIMINATED LIEUTENANT. An assist on the kill paid 632 XP.

Chemist drops: dog tag, cache and Revenant

The body inside the warehouse has the CHEMIST’S DOG TAG. The Chemist’s cache holds 3D Printer ingredients. Make room before the fight: if your bag is full, trying to pick something up displays BACKPACK FULL.

The Chemist can also drop the REVENANT marksman rifle. That rifle and a CHEMIST’S DOG TAG have been picked up together on the beach at Dansik Turtle Island, where enemies in hazmat suits stand on the sand. Check the tac map marker before you commit to a route.
