How Aniimo Replaced Gacha and Runes Ahead of Launch

Aniimo ships as a free-to-play creature collector with more than 200 Aniimo to find, and none of them sit behind a paid banner. Pawprint Studio rebuilt several of its core systems after the global closed beta, scrapping the gacha-style pulls used to acquire the Legendary Aniimo Irisalis and deleting the rune system outright.

Quick answer: Aniimo are caught, never pulled. You collect Legendary Tokens through normal exploration and catching, craft a Legendary Aniipod, then bond with Irisalis in a one-time story encounter. Runes no longer exist.

How Legendary Aniimo are obtained now

In the closed beta, catching Irisalis meant throwing Aniipod after Aniipod and hoping the roll landed. That loop is gone. Executive producer Jovi Zhang has been direct about where the line sits.

Gacha mechanics will not be employed for obtaining Aniimo. We heard community feedback on that point early on.

The replacement is a fixed sequence rather than a probability table. You earn Legendary Tokens by exploring the world and catching ordinary Aniimo, spend them on a Legendary Aniipod, and that unlocks Irisalis’s exclusive story. The encounter itself is unchanged: you fight Irisalis, play through the associated quest, and use the Aniipod to seal the bond once.

Pawprint has said this structure is the template for future Legendary Aniimo, not a one-off concession for Irisalis. Paid options still exist for players who want extra copies faster, but the free route is guaranteed and follows a set story path.

Catching items and what each one does

Three catching items matter most, and the Sparkling Cube is the one that changed meaningfully before launch.

The Legendary Aniipod was created by the Polaris Institute using energy drawn from an Astral Bead. It steadies the chaotic energy inside Vein Rifts, turning that power into a gentle flow that calms a rampaging Legendary Aniimo long enough to bond with it.

Sparkling Cube, Aniipod Ultra and Tumbler are all handed out free through the global launch events, so you do not need to buy a guaranteed Perfect catch.

Prismana hunting, Umbral Aniimo and potential rolls

Prismana are Aniimo’s rare alternate forms, and finding one used to come down to raw chance. The beta’s early-game decay on Prismana odds has been removed, and a Lucky Strike mechanic now drops items that raise an area’s prismatic energy, which in turn raises your odds of running into a Prismana there.

  • Wild Surges spawn Umbral Aniimo, a new variant with distinctive coloration and guaranteed Perfect potential.
  • Umbral Aniimo can also turn up at random while you explore.
  • Wild spawn rates for 9/9 and 10/10 potential Aniimo have been increased.
  • Campervan expeditions can now return eggs carrying the Prismana trait.

You can confirm a catch landed the way you wanted by checking the creature’s potential rating after the capture resolves. A Sparkling Cube catch should read Perfect every time.

The rune system is gone: how stats work instead

Runes were the gear layer you equipped to push an Aniimo’s stats, complete with random slots and random affixes. The whole system has been deleted. Capability caps now open up gradually as your creatures gain levels, so there is no secondary grind for randomized stat rolls on top of raising the Aniimo itself.

Two smaller training changes came with it. Capability awakening can be reset below level 60, and Capafruit stat gains transfer automatically during inheritance instead of being lost. Reaction has been split: some players see the removal as the end of pointless affix farming, while others worry that min-maxing and build variety take a hit.

What Aniimo still charges money for

Dropping gacha from creature acquisition does not make the game free of monetization. Spending sits on the cosmetic and convenience side.

  • Cosmetics, including outfits with interactive features and colour options.
  • A premium battle pass running alongside a free progression track.
  • Premium currency and purchasable consumable items.
  • Accessories for both your Pathfinder and your Aniimo.

Some of those items can also be earned in-game rather than bought, and Zhang has said the team intends to keep widening the cosmetic catalogue over time. The commitment is narrow but clear: collection stays separate from the store.

Homeland, Egg Heist and the rest of the pre-launch pass

Homeland got the largest non-combat expansion. The home map now covers multiple areas, house building is in, and the interior décor catalogue has grown. Furniture layouts can be shared with codes and resold through the co-op shop, furniture is interactive, you can pet your Aniimo, and you can visit other players’ Homelands to till soil for a share of the harvest.

On the combat side, Operation: Egg Heist gains a Chaos mode. Both its standard and single-team variants are level 50 content. Holo-Battle Interlink now supports AI teammates, and Pathfinder Challenge rematches against NPCs give you a way to test finished teams at endgame.

Quest guidance has been overhauled, mobile and controller inputs were redesigned, and multi-language voiceover coverage has been expanded across the main quest.

Launch platforms and dates

Aniimo opens on September 16 for PC and consoles, covering Windows through the official launcher, Steam and the Epic Games Store, plus PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox Cloud Gaming is available from the same day. Mobile follows on September 23 on the App Store and Google Play.

Pre-registration passed 30 million, which unlocked every milestone reward on the campaign: Glimmer x200, two Aniipod Ultra, the “Companion Promise” avatar frame and the “Sunlit Meadow” outfit. You can grab the client and check your reward status on the official Aniimo site.

Taken together, the changes push Aniimo’s grind toward things you can see and plan for. Legendary creatures come from a story you can finish, potential comes from an item you are given for free, and stats come from levels instead of a slot machine full of affixes.
