The exact Spark, materials, boss trophies, and survivor counts needed to strengthen the Flame all the way to Level 11.

The exact Spark, materials, boss trophies, and survivor counts needed to strengthen the Flame all the way to Level 11.

Strengthening the Flame is how your character grows strong enough to push deeper into Embervale. Each step raises the Flame at a Flame Altar, and every step asks for Spark, a batch of regional materials, a boss trophy from the second upgrade onward, and a growing number of survivors living in your base. Here is exactly what each level costs in Enshrouded 1.0.

Quick answer: Upgrading takes you through ten steps, beginning at Flame Level 1 and ending at Flame Level 11. Each step consumes Spark and other materials; starting with Level 3, you also need a boss trophy and survivors assigned sheltered beds. The survivor requirement is 2 at Level 3, then increases by 2 per level until it reaches 18 at Level 11.

Open the Strengthen the Flame screen

Interact with any Flame Altar and select Strengthen the Flame to open the Upgrade Requirements list. For every ingredient, it displays your stock and the amount needed, with its source beneath the item name; Spark, for instance, is labeled “Found in Flame Shrines and Sanctums”. Only survivors assigned to sheltered beds count toward the survivor requirement. Where each trophy boss is, and which quest leads to it, is in our bosses in order guide.

The boss trophies set the order you progress through: Scavenger Matron Helmet, Fell Wispwyvern Head, Fell Monstrosity Head, Fell Sicklescythe Head, Fell Cyclops Head, Fell Dragon Youngling Head, Hydrak’Dal Head, the Broken Guard Of The North Crown, and finally Vorgoth’s Bound Essence and Vorgoth’s Eye.

Where the harder ingredients come from

Spark comes from Flame Shrines and Sanctums (see the Flame Shrine map), and you will need it for every single level. The rest of the awkward pulls split between boss trophies and crafted goods.

Boss trophies

  • You can obtain the Scavenger Matron Helmet from either the Scavenger Gorger Matron or the Scavenger Grizzler Matron. One location to check is the Hill of Scavengers in the Springlands.
  • Find the Fell Monstrosity Head by defeating the Fell Monstrosity in the Nomad Highlands’ Cradle of Dusk.
  • At Ternion Mine in Kindlewastes, defeat the Fell Sicklescythe to get its head.
  • The Fell Cyclops in the Albaneve Summits drops the Fell Cyclops Head; completing “Ignite The Coldest Elixir Well” also awards it.
  • In the Veilwater Basin, Hydrak’Dal is the source of the Hydrak’Dal Head.
  • Fell Wispwyvern Head and Fell Dragon Youngling Head — both come from flying bosses.
  • In the Veilwater Basin, look for the Broken Guard Of The North Crown in the Cromville Throne Room.
  • Vorgoth’s Bound Essence and Vorgoth’s Eye — Vorgoth, the final boss in Cinder’s Cradle.

Crafted materials

  • Goo and Shroud Sludge — the Alchemist.
  • Flammable Goo, Green Vitriol Dust and Mauveine — the Laboratory.
  • Wool — the Spinning Machine.
  • Silver Bars and Celestium Bars — the Blast Furnace.
  • Gleam Root Dust, Piscine Ivory Dust and Diamond Dust — the Mill.
  • Wax — a Beehive.

What the last two upgrades unlock

At Flame Level 10, your character can maintain up to 15 active Flame Altars, so you can establish more bases around the world. After you defeat Vorgoth, Flame Level 11 increases the maximum to 16 and enables Flame Altars to push back the Shroud. The Flame Level 11 guide walks through the last upgrade, and the Cinder’s Cradle guide covers Level 10.
