Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get Farm Soil and Fertilised Farm Soil

Farm Soil is described as, “Healthy soil that will increase the growing speed of most plants.” The Fertilised Farm Soil item text reads, “Healthy, fertilised soil that greatly increases the growing speed of plants.” Both soils drain a small amount of water when overflown, and each stacks to 250.

Quick answer: Rescue the Farmer and give them a sheltered bed. Farm Soil takes 7 Springlands Dirt and 3 Bonemeal to make 10. Fertilised Farm Soil takes 2 Fossilized Bone Dust, 3 Nitrate, 10 Sand, and 10 Farm Soil to make 10.

Rescue the Farmer first

Both soils are crafted at the Farmer. Rescue the Farmer and place a sheltered bed for them at your base, then open the Farmer’s crafting menu to find the soil recipes.

How to make Farm Soil

Dig in the Springlands to collect Springlands Dirt. One batch calls for 7 Springlands Dirt.

Use the Grinding Stones on 2 Bones to produce 3 Bonemeal. A single Farm Soil batch uses all 3.

At the Farmer, choose the Farm Soil recipe. It consumes 7 Springlands Dirt and 3 Bonemeal to produce 10.

How to make Fertilised Farm Soil

Fertilised Farm Soil builds on top of Farm Soil, so keep at least 10 Farm Soil in reserve before you start. You also need two processed materials and some sand.

Process Fossilized Bone for Fossilized Bone Dust: the Grinding Stones yield 3 per bone, while the Mill yields 5. You need 1 Fossilized Bone.

Make Nitrate at the Laboratory. The recipe takes 5 Shroud Sand, 1 Wood Acid, 1 Salt, and 5 Sand, and makes 5 Nitrate.

Set aside 10 Farm Soil and 10 Sand. The Sand can be Fine Sand, Veilwater Basin Sand, or Cinder’s Cradle Sand.

Open the Farmer and craft Fertilised Farm Soil. The recipe takes 2 Fossilized Bone Dust, 3 Nitrate, 10 Sand, and 10 Farm Soil, and makes 10.

What Farm Soil is used for

Use Farm Soil to make garden beds for planting seedlings. It is also an ingredient in various Farmer and Workbench recipes, including the Seedbed.

Crafting a Seedbed at the Farmer uses 10 Farm Soil, 10 Wood Logs, and 2 Metal Scraps.
At the Farmer, combining 10 Farm Soil with 1 Honey yields 10 Flower Soil.
The Farmer can turn 5 Farm Soil, 5 Chitin Powder, and 10 Shroud Sand into 10 Shroud Infused Farm Soil.
At the Farmer, 4 Farm Soil plus 1 Honey produces 100 Ivy.
For each of Springlands, Revelwood, Nomad Highlands, and Blackmire Dirt, the Workbench combines 1 Farm Soil with 9 dirt from that region to produce 10 of the corresponding Fertile dirt.

At the Seedbed, 1 Farm Soil and 1 of the crop make 5 seedlings for Hazelnut Bush, Strawberry, Berry Bush, Corn, Nettle, Indigo, Butterfly Bloom, Cattail, Reed, Shrub, Sugar Cane, Chamomile, Beet, Tomato, and several tree seedlings. Flax gives 10 seedlings from the same input.

What Fertilised Farm Soil is used for

Fertilised Farm Soil is the soil the later seedlings call for at the Seedbed, and it feeds a few further soil and dye recipes.

At the Farmer, combine 5 Fertilised Farm Soil with 10 Basalt Dust to produce 10 Basalt Farm Soil.
At the Coloring Station, crafting Rust And Rose dye consumes 2 Fertilised Farm Soil.
Making Rust dye at the Coloring Station requires 1 Fertilised Farm Soil.
At the Workbench, 1 Fertilised Farm Soil and 9 Sand make 10 Fertile Kindlewastes Sand.

At the Seedbed, 1 Fertilised Farm Soil and 1 of the crop make 5 seedlings for Banana, Coconut Palm, Coffee, Pumpkin, Shiitake, Rice, Papyrus, Daylily, Wolfsbane, Gentian, Saffron, Mangrove, Licuala, Bamboo, Conifer Tree, Taro, and Ginger.
