Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get Critter Parts, Critter Glands and Chitin Powder

Fell Critters in the Shroud drop all three critter materials; the Grinding Stones turn them into Chitin Powder.

Fell Critters in the Shroud drop all three critter materials; the Grinding Stones turn them into Chitin Powder.

Critter Parts, Critter Glands and Critter Carapace are all drops from Fell Critters, the bug-like enemies that nest inside the Shroud in Enshrouded. Critter Glands and Critter Carapace are higher-level versions of the same drop. Chitin Powder is the odd one out: no enemy drops it, and you have to grind it yourself.

Quick answer: Kill Fell Critters in the Shroud to loot Critter Parts (from the Springlands on), then Critter Glands and Critter Carapace from higher-level critters (Carapace first in the Albaneve Summits), and grind 3 Critter Parts or 3 Critter Carapace into 3 Chitin Powder at the Grinding Stones.

Where each critter material drops

The three looted materials differ by item level. Critter Parts appear from the very start of the game, while Glands and Carapace only come off higher-level Fell Critters deeper into the map. A single high-level Fell Critter can hand over all three at once, and the exploding variety also leaves Sulfur behind.

The game describes Critter Carapace as “A carapace that protects the soft critter’s flesh underneath.” Its source line confirms it is dropped by Fell Critters and first turns up in the Albaneve Summits biome.

Critter Parts also come from a few other creatures. Crabs and Fell Crabs drop 1-3 each, while Stingers and Venomous Stingers drop 2-3. Crabs cluster along the Veilwater Basin water, Fell Crabs sit in the Veilwater Basin Shroud, Venomous Stingers roam the Veilwater Basin and Stingers live in the Blackmire.

Farming Critter Parts, Glands and Carapace

Top up your Shroud survival time and step into the Shroud in the region that matches the material you need. The Springlands Shroud holds the largest swarm of Fell Critters on the map, which makes it the best early source of Critter Parts.

Defeat the Fell Critters, then move over their remains and press E to loot them. The pickup feed on the screen’s left displays the materials from each kill, and Critter Parts are labeled “Remains of the pests that dwell below the Shroud.”

For Critter Glands and Critter Carapace, repeat the same loop in higher-level Shroud areas. Carapace starts in the Albaneve Summits. Critter Glands show the text “A pair of slippery Glands.”

Making Chitin Powder at the Grinding Stones

Craft it at the Grinding Stones station, where critter drops are ground into “Fine powder made from grinding critter carapaces.” Its recipe becomes available after your first pickup of Critter Carapace or Chitin Powder.

Open the Grinding Stones, select the Chitin Powder recipe and load in your critter drops. Each batch takes 3 Critter Parts or 3 Critter Carapace and returns 3 Chitin Powder, with a grind time of 2 minutes 30 seconds per batch.
