Finish “A Black Cauldron For The Alchemist,” pull the Cauldron from Ikora’s remains, and build the station at your base.

The Alchemy Station is the Alchemist’s station for better alchemical products such as Alchemical Base. You earn it by finishing the Alchemist quest A Black Cauldron For The Alchemist, which sends you after a sorcerer named Ikora and the Black Cauldron she left behind.

Quick answer: Accept the quest from Balthazar, then talk with Emily Fray. Head to Rattlebleak in the Nomad Highlands and enter Ikora’s shop; use the calcified statues as a guide to find and defeat Ikora, then take the Cauldron. Finally, make the Alchemy Station at the Alchemist in a sheltered location.

What you need before you start

Rescue the Alchemist and take his quest. Rescue him from his Ancient Vault and summon him, then talk to him to pick up the quest. His opening note explains why you are heading out:

“The Alchemist needs a Black Cauldron to establish an Alchemy Station. He heard stories of a sorcerer called Ikora from the Farmer, Emily Fray. Perhaps she knows more.”

Complete A Black Cauldron For The Alchemist

Speak to Balthazar to accept the quest, then find the Farmer, Emily Fray, at your base and talk to her. She points you toward where Ikora used to live.
Make your way into the Nomad Highlands, reach Rattlebleak, and investigate Ikora’s shop. The objective’s wording introduces the situation:

“The Farmer said that Ikora used to reside in Rattlebleak, a town in the the Nomad Highlands. Perhaps the Black Cauldron can be found at her shop.”

With the shop empty, follow the trail of calcified statues leading out of Rattlebleak. The quest updates to explain the path:

“Ikora’s shop is empty, and Rattlebleak is filled with strange, calcified statues. Perhaps this is related to Ikora’s experiments with the Black Cauldron. Following the trail of statues might lead to her.”

Track down Ikora by following the statues, then defeat her. Search her remains for the Cauldron; taking it grants the Alchemical Base recipe at the Alchemy Station. The quest text then reads:

“Ikora, or what was left of her, was defeated. The Black Cauldron must be among her remains. The Alchemist will have use for it.”

The Cauldron’s item text reads: “A centerpiece for the Alchemy Station.”

Craft and place the Alchemy Station

Return to your base and talk to Balthazar to open his crafting menu. The Alchemy Station recipe requires a sheltered spot and the following materials.

Craft the station and place it in your base. In the game’s words, the result is “An Alchemy Station offering all needed tools to craft better alchemical products.”

What the Alchemy Station crafts

Two recipes are made directly at the station itself:

  • Alchemical Base takes 2 Shroud Mushroom, 2 Acidic Mycelium, 1 Shroud Particles and 1 Corrosive Blood, and makes 1 Alchemical Base in 75 s.
  • Antiseptic takes 1 Wood Acid and 1 Sage Leaves, and makes 1 Antiseptic in 120 s.

With the station placed, the Alchemist can also craft the Athanor, which takes 10 Glass, 10 Bronze Bars, and 5 Lump of Clay; it is one of the components required later for the Laboratory.
