Enshrouded: How to Find and Read the Flame Obelisk (A Story of Fire)

A Story of Fire is the main quest that opens as soon as you wrap up Making A Home. It has two objectives. First you find the Flame Obelisk, a tall rune-covered stone far west of your starting base. Then you read it, which charts a new location and starts the next quest.

Quick answer: Follow the compass marker far west of your base into a wooded valley. Walk up to the obelisk on the dark stone platform, press E Read, then press ESC Finish on the lore screen.

Flame Obelisk location and quest start

Once you finish Making A Home by cooking food over a fire and eating it, the tracker switches to “A STORY OF FIRE – Discover The Flame Obelisk” and a quest marker appears on your compass.

That marker points to a wooded valley far west of the starting base. The obelisk is easy to spot once you’re close. Look for these details:

A tall, dark obelisk covered in glowing pink runes
A dark stone platform under it, just off the valley’s dirt path
Two urns on the platform, with E Loot and “E Collect nearby loot” prompts
A nearby berry bush can be harvested for Purple Berries using E Harvest

Route to the Flame Obelisk: Glide in from the east ridge

We came at the valley from the high grassy ridge on its east side and glided down into the forest.

Travel west from your base, following the compass marker to the crest of the elevated grassy ridge. Below, you’ll spot a forested valley, a building with a red roof, and a dirt path.

Jump off the ridge edge, which is a steep drop, and open the Glider. While you glide, the right mouse button shows Cancel.

Once you land, follow the wooded trail west toward the marker; the obelisk stands just off the path. When you reach the obelisk, your objective becomes “Read The Springlands Obelisk Of The Flame”.

How to read the Springlands Obelisk Of The Flame

Climb onto the stone platform and approach the obelisk. When “E Read” appears, press E.

Press ESC Finish to close the lore screen and return to the world. That completes the read objective.

What happens after you read the obelisk

Once gameplay resumes, the left side displays “NEW LOCATION CHARTED! 10 markers added.” beside an “M Show on Map” prompt. At the upper right, narration for “In A World Destined for Ruin” continues; press L to pause it. The obelisk’s pink runes are now dark.

The tracker has updated to “A STORY OF ROT – Discover The Shroud Obelisk”, and another marker appears on your compass. The obelisk still offers E Read afterwards.

When you strengthen the Flame to Level 2, the Flame sends you to the two Ancient Obelisks of the Springlands; this is one of them. The others across the map are in our list of all Ancient Obelisk locations.
