How to Enter the Well in Phantom Blade Zero (Heartless Remnants)

Quick answer: After you destroy Sect Leader He’s remaining body, go to the open stone well by the Well of the Three Puppets bell. Jump onto the stone lip inside it, then jump again to drop to the cave below.

The well sits in the Village of Lu in Chapter 1 of Phantom Blade Zero, and entering it is an objective in the main story quest HEARTLESS REMNANTS. On PATHBREAKER, the default difficulty, Soul reaches the bottom at full health.

When the well opens

Until you deal with Sect Leader He, the well at the village entrance stays bound in red threads. Destroying Sect Leader He’s remaining body brings up the message “The threads sealing the well at the village entrance have vanished.” In the Quests tab, HEARTLESS REMNANTS now lists the objective “Enter the well”, and well markers appear on the Village of Lu map.

How to enter the well

Travel to the Well of the Three Puppets bell, which stands right next to the well. If you’ve already rung it, use Traverse at any bell and pick the Well of the Three Puppets on the Village of Lu map.

From the bell, walk roughly 20 m to a circular stone well. A wooden winch frame hangs overhead; clay jars and a wooden bucket sit nearby, with a dead tree behind. The red threads have disappeared, leaving the opening unobstructed.

Press E to talk to Puppet Bi Yuan, the pale puppet seated among red candles beside the well. It tells you to jump, then leaves the rest to you.

At the edge, face across the well, hold W, and tap Space.

Soul clears the rim but stops short of the bottom, landing on a narrow stone ledge against the shaft wall roughly 9 m below.

From the ledge, face the shaft’s center, hold W, and press Space once more. The shaft stretches far below, with light visible at its base.

Soul falls the full distance; the screen turns black as the next area loads, then Soul lands at the bottom.

What is at the bottom of the well

On touchdown, the HEARTLESS REMNANTS quest banner confirms you’re inside the well. You arrive in a dim cave supported by timber. The surroundings include:

Dead bodies in red robes on the ground
Puppets hanging from the wooden beams above
Red threads and a red-lit room ahead
A cluster of glowing blue petals on your right

No enemies are near the landing, so you have time to grab the petals before moving on.

Roughly 6 m to the right of where you land, you’ll find the blue petal patch. Press E there to view a memory: three imprisoned thieves, who are brothers, argue over how to escape:

The youngest explains that a puppet lock seals the passage to Pangzhen and the tunnel has been reinforced, making escape by digging pointless.
The second brother would choose to fight rather than turn into a soulless puppet.
The eldest says the village and tunnels are full of soulless villagers and the Herald’s puppets, so the brothers should fight through together and share whatever fate comes.

Next, a card appears for the “WULIN FIGHTERS’ MEMORY FLOWER” with the petal “II. LIVE AND DIE TOGETHER”. It reads “(2/2) All Memory Remnants collected. HP increased.” and shows “+5%”. Collecting this petal completes the flower. As an example, a Soul with 1,349 max HP goes up to 1,402.

The other petal, “I. WHERE LIES HOPE?”, can be found in the shrine room within the temple hall at Master Bi Yuan’s arena.
