NTE Sunward Travelogue: How to Clear All 9 Strange Tales on Sunni Island

The exact time, weather, and NPC triggers you need to finish every Sunni Island Strange Tale and claim the event rewards.

The exact time, weather, and NPC triggers you need to finish every Sunni Island Strange Tale and claim the event rewards.

The Sunward Travelogue event in Neverness to Everness sends you across Sunni Island to solve nine Strange Tales, and almost all of them fail unless you hit them under the right in-game time, weather, or NPC spawn. The event arrived with Version 1.1 Dreamwalk Corridor, and the main task is simply to complete all nine tales to unlock the reward tiers.

Quick answer: Unlock Sunni Island by clearing the Dreamwalk Corridor story episode, activate the island’s ReroRero Phone Booth, then use the Time System to set the exact time and weather each tale requires before you walk up to its trigger. If an NPC won’t spawn, enter and exit any Character Trial to force the map to reload.

Event window, requirements, and rewards

The event runs from June 3 (after the update) until July 8, 05:59 (UTC+8). Sunni Island itself is gated behind the Version 1.1 main story. You need to finish the Dreamwalk Corridor episode, which only opens after you complete A Research in Scarlet. Until then, the island and its tasks stay locked.

Once you have access, activate the Sunni Island ReroRero Phone Booth. It acts as your central fast-travel point, and most of the routes below start from it. Rewards unlock in increments of two completed tales, and the full set includes event currency and upgrade materials.

RewardAmount
Annulith300
Beetle Coin350,000
Manhole Boss55
Chaotic Dye16
Elite Hunter Guide16
Heterogenous Unit10
Expansion Core10

Note: You will lean on the Time System constantly. Some tales only trigger in the morning, some at night, and some require sunny or rainy weather. Do not skip dialogue too quickly on NPC-triggered tales, since rushing past lines can stop a tale from registering.

The Drowning Tourist

Teleport to the Sunni Island ReroRero Phone Booth. Head northeast and move down toward the road below.

Summon a vehicle and ride downhill. Turn left when you reach the road, then follow it until you see stairs on your right leading down to the beach.
Near the stairs, talk to the mother and child NPCs. After the conversation, set the time to 08:00 the next morning and choose Sunny weather.
If the mother and child are still there and no new NPC appears, enter a Character Trial and exit it. A tired-looking tourist should spawn nearby. Talk to him, then swim out into the sea.

Let your stamina run out in the water. When white bubbles appear, stay inside that bubble zone and swim in small circles. Drifting too far breaks the trigger, so keep tight.
After the cutscene, an anomaly named Wahie saves you, and you are returned to shore. Talk to the mother again to close out the tale.

The Tunnel

Right after the drowning event, set the time to 22:00 so the island is at night.
Return to the road and summon a motorcycle, scooter, or any rideable vehicle.
Ride west into the tunnel. Travel a short way inside, and the tale triggers on its own. The only condition that matters is entering the tunnel at night while mounted.

Flying Fish

Go back to the tunnel entrance area. On the nearby coast, find a drift bottle by the shore and interact with it. This bottle is the trigger for the tale, so do not skip it.

Head northwest along the beach toward the small island area, following the coastline until you reach the fishing NPCs. Set the time to 08:00 and choose Sunny weather, then talk to the two fishing NPCs.
Go to the nearby fishing spot and start fishing. Catch any Flying Fish variant. Blue, red, or green all count. Exit fishing mode and the tale completes.

Tip: Nectar Bait is recommended but needs Level 5 Fishing. If you haven’t leveled fishing, use Universal Bait and keep trying until the variant bites.

The Firestone and Bonfire

From the fishing area, head southwest along the coast. Stay close to the rocks until you find a small wooden boat. Next to it, there is a blue bag. Search it to get a Firestone.

Go south toward the beach bonfire and light it once. Even if the fire does not stay visibly lit, that is fine. You only need to trigger the interaction once.
Set the time to 20:00 and choose Rainy weather. Watch the shore. If the NPC does not appear, open the Time System and select Rainy again to push the time forward, or reload the game.
An escaped NPC appears near the water. Talk to him. For the first dialogue choice, pick the first option. For the second choice, letting him go is the easiest path. The third option gives a small extra Fons reward. After the dialogue, the tale is complete.

Note: If the blue bag will not respond, make sure you already read the drift bottle from the Flying Fish tale first.

The Golden Tree (three glowing trees)

This tale needs three items hidden under three glowing golden trees. The trees only appear after 20:00, so keep the island at night while you collect them. You start this early and finish it at the very end with the offshore turn-in.

From the bonfire area, go southeast and climb toward the first golden tree in the forest. Pick up the item under it.
Head south along the resort wall and follow it to the second golden tree, located behind the resort. Grab the second item.
The third tree is near the lighthouse, collected later during the Dance Dance Dance route. Do not worry if the tale does not complete yet.

The Ghost Captain and Rusty Knife

From the second golden tree, move toward the wooden ship mast and the beach campfire below. You should find an NPC called Great Jerry near the bonfire.
Talk to him repeatedly and keep choosing the first dialogue option until he asks you to help find a knife. When the option appears, choose the answer meaning “I’ll try.”
Teleport back to the ReroRero Phone Booth. Head west along the road and enter the resort. Go into the lobby, take the stairs on the right, and on the second floor, look north for the NPCs sitting near a table. Set the time to morning if you cannot interact with them.
After the dialogue, pick up the Rusty Knife from the table. Track the tale from the map and return to the shipwreck area.
Interact with the bonfire and throw the Rusty Knife into it. If the ghost captain does not appear near the wooden boat, enter and exit a Character Trial. Talk to him once he shows up. Any dialogue option finishes the tale.

Note: If you cannot talk to the resort NPCs, confirm you already accepted Great Jerry’s request. The knife will not be available until you agree to help him.

The Water Well

Teleport back to the ReroRero Phone Booth. Head southeast through the alley beside the houses and climb over the wall into the forest.
Find the well in the middle of the area and set the time to 20:00 (sunset works). Weather does not matter here.
Interact with the well and choose to pour water. Then interact again and listen to the story. Talk to the anomaly that surfaces to finish the tale.

Dance Dance Dance

From the well area, head southeast up the hill toward the third golden tree (near the lighthouse). Climb up and pick up the final golden-tree item.
Go to the nearby residential/lighthouse area. If nothing happens, set the time to 22:00.
Before entering the doorway, turn on music. Use the Cubox Portable Player (Walkman), or ride a motorcycle with the radio on. While the music is active, enter the door. This teleports you inside and completes the tale.

The anomalies are having a party inside, and you can only enter while listening to music.

The Bell and the final Golden Tree turn-in

After the music-door tale, walk west to the house entrance, turn right, and glide down. Look for a platform below holding a bell.
Land on the platform and ring the bell. That clears the Bell tale on its own. Each ring also changes the island’s weather, which makes it a fast way to switch between sunny and rainy while cleaning up any remaining tales.
From the bell, glide northeast toward the beach and summon a scooter or motorcycle. Ride along the coast toward the small offshore island.
Near the reef, follow the narrow path across the water by vehicle until you reach the small island. Ride or climb up the slope, then interact with the stone (the broken sword) at the top and submit the three golden-tree items. That completes the Golden Tree tale and, with it, all nine.

You know it worked when each tale resolves its cutscene or dialogue and shows as complete in your event progress. Reaching nine completions unlocks the full Sunward Travelogue reward set.

Fixes for tales that won’t trigger

Most of the difficulty comes from hidden triggers, time and weather checks, and NPCs that fail to refresh. If a tale stalls, work through these in order.

  • Change the in-game time and weather again to match the tale’s exact requirement.
  • Enter any Character Trial, then exit, to force NPC and map states to reload.
  • Restart the game if the state still looks stuck.
  • If a quest is being auto-tracked and locking the clock, cancel the tracking and try the trigger again.

Set your time and weather before you approach each trigger, keep the ReroRero Phone Booth as your home base, and use the Character Trial reset whenever an NPC stalls. With that rhythm, all nine Sunni Island Strange Tales can be cleared in a single tour of the island, well before the event closes on July 8.
