Where Winds Meet: Wandering Tales Walkthrough and Rewards

Unlock the hidden exploration quests across Heaven's Pier, Moonveil Mountain, and Blissful Retreat, plus every reward they pay out.

Unlock the hidden exploration quests across Heaven’s Pier, Moonveil Mountain, and Blissful Retreat, plus every reward they pay out.

Wandering Tales are hidden exploration quests scattered across the world of Where Winds Meet. They never appear as clear markers on your map, and they rarely hand you a golden path to follow. Instead, you find a clue, connect it to a person or item somewhere nearby, and piece the story together yourself. The reward is worth the effort, since most tales pay out Echo Jades, Coins, and XP.

Quick answer: To unlock and track any Wandering Tale, talk to the region’s Wayfarer to reveal the area map, then open your journal and check the Wandering Tales tab under Exploration. That tab gives you the first clue for each tale in the region.

How to unlock and track Wandering Tales

You cannot simply spot these quests on the map like normal missions. Two things make them appear.

Find and speak to the Wayfarer in each new region. Talking to them unlocks the area map and fills your journal with the first hints for that area’s tales.
Open your journal and go to the Wandering Tales tab under Exploration. Each entry there points you toward the starting location of a tale.
Stay alert while you explore. Some tales begin the moment you walk near two people and overhear their conversation, so slow down in busy towns and listen.

Heaven’s Pier and Moonveil Mountain tales

The starting Qinghe area holds most of the early tales. These begin in and around Heaven’s Pier, Moonveil Mountain, and the Verdant Wilds.

True or False: Young Master

Head north of Heaven’s Pier in the Moonveil Mountain area. You will meet a scammer disguised to look exactly like your character.
Interact with him and challenge him to a Gift of Gab battle, the word-based card duel. Win the duel, and he runs off, leaving his goons to fight you.
Travel to Harvestfall Village and find the same scammer in front of the Honest Merchant. Confront him again to close out the tale.

A Toast to Heroes

Find Grandpa Zhou weeping at a tea stall on Battlecrest Slope, west of the Northern Vow Ruins. He has lost his bag.
Climb the small hill to his right, where a group of snakes sits in the grass. Use Wind Sense to spot the Old Man’s Bundle, then use Celestial Seize to grab it safely away from the snakes.
Return the Soaked Bundle to Grandpa Zhou. His wine is broken, so he asks for two fresh jars of Sacrificial Wine from the bandit camps north and south of the ruins. The wine sits on a cart in each camp.
Meet him at the Northern Vow Ruins Boundary Stone and hand over the wine to finish.

Note: Celestial Seize is a Puzzle Mystic Art you earn from the Foul Play quest, so complete that first if the skill is missing.

Abyss of Desire

Behind the tavern in Heaven’s Pier, find Mu Bai sitting on the ground. He refuses to talk until you bring him wine, three drinks in total.
Grab the Parting Tears from a bench south of him and give it over. He then asks for Parting Tears Reserve, found on the table at Yuan Tiantian’s food stall nearby.
For his last request, climb the stairs to the brewery storage area and collect the Large Jar of Parting Tears from under a shed. Give all three to Mu Bai to complete the tale.

A Foolproof Plan

On a hill at West Heaven’s Pier, find Shu Shu’er. He offers a treasure map in exchange for one jar of Parting Tears.
Collect a jar of Parting Tears nearby, either on a bench near the Lone Drinker or on a crate at the pier, and hand it over. The map turns out to be a fake drawing, and he runs away.
Follow the road west toward Blissful Retreat. You will find him near the bridge, cornered by masked soldiers. Step in to save him and the tale completes.

The Dogs Know First

Teleport to the Brewery Backyard in Heaven’s Pier, where a dog named Butter is barking at a man. To calm the dog, you need a Meaty Bone.
Pick up a Meaty Bone near the entrance to Heaven’s Pier, on the ground beside Mu Bai, then return and feed it to Butter. The man escapes but drops a Mysterious Token, the Dragon Crest Token: Yin, on a crate.
Read the token’s description, which says to give it to Unfated Tian or Tang Bao. Travel to Blissful Retreat, find Tang Bao at the entrance, and give him the token to end the quest.

The Missing Funds

Speak to a worried man near the pier at West Heaven’s Pier, then follow the path ahead to spot Bandit Feifei hiding behind a fence.
Use Celestial Seize to steal the bundle back from him. If he spots you, wait for him to reset and try again, then return the bag to its owner.

Tip: Finishing this tale grants the Dragon Crest Token: Wind, which you need for Cant of the Jianghu in Blissful Retreat.

Meow Meow Temple

In the Verdant Wilds, find Fu Lubao, a fortune teller pacing along a path near the General’s Shrine. He mentions a nearby cave that is the real Meow Meow Temple.
Head into the cave and solve the cat statue puzzle by finding the missing cat statue and placing it on the empty slab. This grants you a Bell.
Return to Fu Lubao and give him the Bell to complete the quest.

Well of Heaven Special Training

Find the Well of Heaven runners near the pier at West Heaven’s Pier, and accept the prompt to join their training.
Run two full laps with the group while watching the chant timer. Hit the prompt as it reaches one second, four times total, to finish the training.

Blissful Retreat tales

Blissful Retreat holds three notable tales. Follow these exact steps rather than searching the town at random.

Mysterious Letter

Go to Aunt Han’s Room in Blissful Retreat and pick up the Old Letter from the table. This can also unlock after finishing the Worldly Affair quest in Chapter 1.
Head outside and look for Pei Mao, who usually sits on a rooftop with a cat nearby. Hand him the Old Letter to finish the tale.

The Stolen First-Jar Wine

Find Pei Niang in the central area of Blissful Retreat, distressed over a stolen jar of wine. Check the tree directly to the left of his building and you will spot a piece of Yellow Fur stuck to the bark.
Climb to the very top of the nearby wine tower, where three sleeping monkeys guard the First Jar Wine. Take the jar and carry it back down.
Return the wine to Pei Niang to claim 40 Echo Jades and 5,000 Coins, one of the larger early payouts.

Cant of the Jianghu

Requirement: You must already hold the Dragon Crest Token: Wind, earned by completing The Missing Funds tale.

Go to the dock area in Blissful Retreat and look for a stall with a character labeled Strange Guest.
Speak to him about dragon scales and hand over the Dragon Crest Token to instantly complete the quest.

You will know a tale is done when the entry updates in the Wandering Tales tab and the reward pops up on screen. If a tale refuses to trigger, the usual cause is a missing requirement, such as not yet unlocking Celestial Seize for the bag-grabbing tales or not holding the correct Dragon Crest Token before speaking to the Strange Guest. Clear those blockers first, and the rest of the tales fall into place as you work through Heaven’s Pier, Blissful Retreat, and Harvestfall Village.
