Crimson Desert: How to Open the Dragon’s Stone Chamber Door

The exact dial positions, the ravine entrance in Hernand Highlands, and the rewards waiting behind the dragon head.

The exact dial positions, the ravine entrance in Hernand Highlands, and the rewards waiting behind the dragon head.

The Dragon’s Stone Chamber is one of the 37 Ancient Ruins puzzles in Crimson Desert, and it hides two doors rather than one. The first is a painted mural you push open in a ravine wall. The second sits under a stone dragon head inside the chamber, and it only moves once three rotating discs are lined up correctly.

Quick answer: Stand facing the stone dragon and rotate the left dial 90° clockwise until the sun points straight up, the middle dial 180° until its C-shaped outer line faces left and slightly up, and the right dial 90° counter-clockwise until the outermost swirl sits in the bottom-left. The wall beneath the dragon then opens.

Dial positions that unlock the Dragon’s Stone Chamber door

Three discs sit in the pit at the center of the chamber, each carved with a different pattern. Every orientation below is described from the position facing the stone dragon head, so square up with the statue before you start turning anything. Stand off to the side and left and right will read backwards.

DialRotationCorrect end position
Left90° clockwiseSun symbol pointing straight up
Middle180°C-shaped outer line facing left, angled slightly up
Right90° counter-clockwiseOutermost swirl resting in the bottom-left section

There is no timer and no penalty for turning a disc past its mark, so you can keep cycling each one until the pattern matches. When all three are correct at the same time, the panel below the dragon slides away on its own.

Dragon’s Stone Chamber location in Hernand Highlands

The ruin sits in the Serkin Estate area of the Hernand Highlands, southwest of the Howling Hill camp and south of Thinker’s Meadow. The Mysterious Energy icon on the map is misleading here. It plants itself over Thinker’s Meadow, while the real entrance is tucked into an alcove partway down the enormous chasm to the south, beside the main road.

Players who have refounded the Gerymane Camp at Howling Hill in Chapter 3 can treat the house near the camp as the reference point. The chasm is almost directly south of it.

How to get inside the chamber

Ride to the edge of the ravine south of Thinker’s Meadow and look down. You are aiming for a brightly painted mural cut into the rock face partway down, not the bottom of the pit.
Drop off the cliff and glide toward the alcove. If your stamina runs low before you reach it, get directly above the opening instead and lower yourself down so you nudge into the ledge rather than overshooting it.

Once you are standing in the alcove, raise your lantern. It glows near a readable memory here, and playing it back reveals that one section of the painted mural is a door.
Walk into the middle of the mural and push. The stone slab swings inward and opens the way into the chamber proper. Interacting with this outer door also grants the Sword of the Cursed knowledge entry.

Mural clue locations on Anvil Hill (optional)

The game expects you to earn the dial positions. A large painted map covers the chamber wall, marking three spots out in the world where the individual disc patterns are painted onto rock. All three are on the white southern cliffs of Anvil Hill, in the Anvil Hillside Terrace. Chasing them down is entirely optional if you already have the solution above.

The fastest approach is to fast travel to the Abyss Cresset near Anvil Hill and work across the cliffs from there, gliding between the ledges rather than climbing each face from the ground.

Keep your lantern up as you sweep the cliff faces. The paintings are weathered and easy to glide straight past, and the lantern glow makes them stand out against the pale rock.

The third pattern is the furthest out, sitting northeast of the second. The route there runs across open hillside, so expect the usual interaction prompts for wildlife and gatherables to pop up while you search.

How to confirm the puzzle is solved, and what you get

Success is unmistakable. The moment the third disc lands in position, the wall directly beneath the stone dragon head grinds open, exposing a hidden room with a chest and an Abyss Cresset. If the dragon head has not reacted, at least one disc is still off, and the left and right patterns are the usual culprits because they are easy to mix up when you are not squared with the statue.

Interacting with the Cresset hands over an Abyss Artifact and switches the ruin on as a fast travel point. Completing the puzzle also awards the Memory of Abundance key item, which reveals hidden location information elsewhere on the map, and ticks off the Dragon’s Stone Chamber entry in the Ancient Ruins challenge list toward the Puzzle Solver trophy.

Tip: Use the Cresset before you leave. Climbing back out of the chasm is far more tedious than it was to fall into it, and the fast travel point spares you the trip.
