Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get Padding and Warm Padding

Both armor kits are crafted at the Hunter with a Tanning Station, and Warm Padding adds a Spinning Machine and Wool.

Both armor kits are crafted at the Hunter with a Tanning Station, and Warm Padding adds a Spinning Machine and Wool.

Padding and Warm Padding are crafting kits you build at the Hunter in your base, not loot you pull off a defeated enemy. Padding feeds mid-game, iron-tier gear, while Warm Padding is the material behind the cold-protection sets you need for the Albaneve Summits. Both share most of the same ingredients, and both need a Tanning Station placed in your base.

Quick answer: At the Hunter, make Padding from 3 Fabric, 1 Leather, 2 Resin and 2 Linen. Once you have Raw Wool, Warm Padding takes 3 Fabric, 1 Leather, 2 Resin and 4 Wool.

What Padding and Warm Padding do

Padding is described in-game as “A basic ingredient for all advanced armor. The padding added below the hard shell can create comfort and soften impacts.” Warm Padding is described as “A warmer and better-insulated padding kit. When used to create armor, it will protect you from the bitter cold.”

Padding goes into regular iron-tier armor and some furniture. Warm Padding is the insulated version that lets you craft gear able to survive the freezing conditions in the mountains.

How to craft Padding at the Hunter

Bring the Hunter to your base and set up a Tanning Station. Her “In Need Of A Tanning Station” quest gives you the station and must be completed to craft Leather. Learn Fabric to unlock the Padding recipe.

Place the Tanning Station in your base and make Leather on it.
Talk to the Hunter and open the Resources tab. Select Padding from the list of craftable items.
Confirm the craft. Each Padding costs 3 Fabric, 1 Leather, 2 Resin and 2 Linen, and yields 1 Padding per craft.

Padding is required for shields such as the Soldier Shield, Rogue Shield, Mountain’s Shadow Shield and Brazen Bull Shield at 2 each, and the Shield of Light at 5. Chest pieces including the Soldier, Rogue and Warden Chestplate, Assassin Chest, Deerstalker Chest, Deadeye Vest, Warlock Shirt and Archmage Chest each take 1. The Soldier, Sage and Warden Gloves and the Sage Headwrap take 1 as well, and furniture like the Iron Bench (2), Granite Throne, Sand Throne and Palm Wood Chair (1 each) uses it too.

How to craft Warm Padding

Warm Padding needs the same Hunter setup plus a supply of Wool, which you refine from Raw Wool. The recipe unlocks once you know Raw Wool. The Hunter’s quest “A Spinning Machine For The Hunter” (recommended level 25) then walks you through the rest in three steps.

Collect Raw Wool from Yaks in the Albaneve Summits. This pickup unlocks the Warm Padding recipe at the Hunter. For the full walkthrough, use the Wool and Spinning Machine guide.

Complete the quest step “Craft A Spinning Machine With The Huntress” by crafting the Spinning Machine alongside her.
To complete “Refine Raw Wool”, set the Spinning Machine at your base, then use it to turn your Raw Wool into Wool.

For “Make Warm Padding Kits”, return to the Hunter and craft Warm Padding from 3 Fabric, 1 Leather, 2 Resin and 4 Wool. The quest text reads: “The refined wool can be used to craft warm padding kits. These kits are essential for crafting warmer gear.”

Warm Padding goes into 51 recipes, the cold-protection armor for the Albaneve Summits. The Hunter makes the Frostbite Slasher, Alpine Antler and Trailblazer sets, the Alchemist the Hailcaster, Pearlfrost Mentor and Thaumaturge sets, and the Blacksmith the Mountain’s Shadow, Wolf’s Fang and Brazen Bull sets. A boots, trousers, gloves, or helmet piece costs 1 Warm Padding; a chest piece costs 2.

Ingredient sources

If you are short on any of the base materials, each has its own production chain in your base.

  • Fabric is made at the Loom, and knowing it unlocks the Padding recipe.
  • Leather comes from the Tanning Station tied to the Hunter’s quest.
  • Resin is gathered out in the world.
  • Linen rounds out the Padding recipe.
