Anime Squadron: How to Get Asto (Black) With the Superior Trait

The exact capsule pulls, Yol costs, trait rolls, and awakening materials behind one of the game's top DPS units.

The exact capsule pulls, Yol costs, trait rolls, and awakening materials behind one of the game’s top DPS units.

Asto (Black) sits in the top DPS bracket in Anime Squadron, and getting him there takes three separate systems working together — a 0.1% Secret pull, a trait reroll that lands on Superior, and an awakening material that only shows up in the Capsule Event shop. None of it is random once you know the order.

Quick answer: Farm Yol in The Royal Capital event map, spend it on Devil Capsules until Asto (Devil) drops at 0.1%, reroll his trait with Trait Shards until Superior appears, then buy the Demon Dweller Sword from the Capsule Event shop and awaken him into Asto (Black).

What Asto (Black) does on a team

Asto (Black) is an S-Tier DPS unit whose main value is shutting off enemy special effects. Regenerate, Confusion, Hexer, Summoner, and Dodger all stop working on enemies inside his range, which removes most of the chaos from a stage clear. He then buffs his own output on top of that, turning into one of the strongest sustained damage dealers in the roster.

His passives are Anti-Magic, Relentless, and Demon-Slayer Sword, and he carries the Protagonist and Mage tags. That matters for leader selection — leaders such as Gometa SSJ4 and Shadow give damage buffs to Protagonist units, so Asto (Black) benefits from either one in the leader slot.

Everything you need before you start

ItemWhere it comes from and what it’s for
YolEvent currency farmed in The Royal Capital map. Spent in the Capsule Event shop.
Devil CapsuleBought with Yol, opened from the Items menu. Carries the 0.1% Asto (Devil) drop.
Demon Dweller SwordCapsule Event shop. The awakening material that turns Asto (Devil) into Asto (Black).
Trait ShardsReroll a unit’s trait. Needed repeatedly until Superior lands.
Reroll Cubes / Perfect CubesReroll individual stats toward SS and SSS ranks.

Note: Update 3.5 cut evolution requirements in half, so the material cost for awakenings is lower than it was at launch. The Four-Leaf Grimoire in the same shop costs 2,000 Yol and belongs to Yano’s awakening, not Asto’s — don’t burn currency on it by mistake.

Farm Yol and pull Asto (Devil) from Devil Capsules

Open the Capsule Event and queue into Act 1 of The Royal Capital. Bring a preset team so you can run it repeatedly without rebuilding your lineup. Each clear pays out Yol, which is the only currency the capsule shop accepts.
Switch to the Shop tab inside the Capsule Event and buy Devil Capsules in bulk. Perfect Prism sits in the same shop, but capsules are the only thing that can drop Asto (Devil).

Go to the Items menu, select Devil Capsule, and hit Use. Open them in large batches — 89 at a time is a reasonable chunk — because the Secret drop rate on Asto (Devil) is 0.1%. Along the way you’ll pull Yomi and Yano, plus gems and Trait Shards.

Once Asto (Devil) appears, open the Units menu and level him with feed items. Take him to Level 50 before you touch the awakening screen.

Stock up on Trait Shards and Reroll Cubes with codes

Trait rerolling eats shards fast, and codes are the cheapest way to refill. Launch Anime Squadron, finish the tutorial, tap the Codes button on the left side of the screen, type a code into the textbox, and press Redeem Code.

Rerolling the Superior trait on Asto

Superior is the target trait for DPS units, with Cloner as the fallback. It grants +200% DMG, +300% HP, +30% RNG, and a 15% cooldown reduction, which is a bigger swing than anything else in the pool.

Open the Trait Reroll screen with Asto selected and load a Trait Shard. Each press of Reroll consumes shards and replaces whatever trait is currently attached.
Keep rolling through the common outcomes. Powerful, Rebirth, Tank, and Cloner all show up regularly, and none of them lock you out of another attempt.

Stop as soon as Superior appears on the unit card. The trait is permanent until you reroll again, so don’t press the button one more time out of habit.

Awakening Asto (Devil) into Asto (Black)

Return to the Capsule Event shop and buy the Demon Dweller Sword. It’s the material the Awakening screen asks for, and it can’t be farmed anywhere else.
Open the Awakening menu, select Asto (Devil), confirm the Demon Dweller Sword requirement is met, and press Awaken.

You’ll know it worked when the unit card renames itself to Asto (Black), the tags read Protagonist and Mage, and the passive list shows Anti-Magic, Relentless, and Demon-Slayer Sword. The Superior trait carries over with him.

If the Awaken button won’t fire, it’s almost always one of two things — the Demon Dweller Sword hasn’t been purchased yet, or you’re short on Yol to buy it. Both are fixed by another lap through The Royal Capital.

Stat rerolls and gear for Asto (Black)

Awakening is the halfway point. Asto (Black) has six rerollable stats — HP, DMG, CD, RNG, SPD, and DEF — and each one can be pushed with regular Reroll Cubes or Perfect Cubes. Regular cubes are fine for climbing to SS; Perfect Cubes are what you save for the last few pulls up to SSS across the board.

For gear, Astos Hair and Omega Horns are the pairing that pushes his defense-ignore and damage numbers. Both slot in from the gear menu once he’s awakened.

Tip: the Level 75 milestone hands out a Gamepass Voucher alongside Trait Shards and Reroll Cubes. Redeeming the voucher for the 3x Speed gamepass cuts the time on every Yol farming run afterwards, which matters when you’re opening capsules by the hundred.

The units you pull along the way aren’t filler either. Yomi and Yano both awaken into Yomi (Darkness) and Yano (Spirit Dive), and Yomi (Darkness) holds its own as a tanky boss killer next to Asto (Black). Reroll their stats before awakening rather than after, and you’ll have a functional S-Tier core out of the same event currency.
