Rescue the Hunter, gather 10 Wood Logs and 6 String, then dry furs, hides and fruit with Salt.

The Drying Rack is crafted at the Hunter. You build it through her, place it nearby, and use Salt for the fur and hide recipes. Here is exactly how to unlock it and what it produces.

Quick answer: Rescue the Hunter, bring her to your base, then craft the Drying Rack from her for 10 Wood Logs and 6 String.

What the Drying Rack does

The Drying Rack uses Salt to keep furs usable for longer. Its in-game description reads: “Uses salt to conserve furs for further usage. Place near a Hunter.” You need the Hunter at your base to craft it.

How to unlock and build the Drying Rack

Save the Hunter and return her to your base. Her presence unlocks the Drying Rack recipe, making this your first task. If you still need to find her, follow the route to locate the Hunter at the Ancient Vault.
Collect 10 Wood Logs and 6 String. That’s everything the Drying Rack requires, so have it all ready before speaking with her.
Open the Hunter’s menu and craft the Drying Rack there. Selecting its recipe card displays the station and the materials needed.

Interact with the Drying Rack, pick a recipe, and load in the resources. From here it runs on its own and hands back the finished materials when the timer ends.

Drying Rack recipes and outputs

Each recipe takes your raw material plus Salt (except the fruits) and returns a preserved version. These are the five things the Drying Rack makes.

You will need a steady supply of Salt for the fur and hide recipes. The leather lines are worth noting too, since one hide returns three leather. You can read more on Reptile Leather and Water Reptile Leather if you want to farm the hides.

What the preserved items are for

Dried Fur item text reads: “After drying the Animal Fur on the Drying Rack, it becomes sturdier and more durable for a longer period of time.” Once dried, it goes back to the Hunter, where it feeds her armor and rug recipes. You will want a stock of Animal Fur ready to run through it.

The two fruit recipes trade some of the raw item’s healing for a longer effect. The Dried Purple Berry description reads: “When conserved, the Dried Purple Berry do not regenerate as much Health as the Purple Berries. However, the duration lasts longer.” The Dried Banana Chips carry a similar note: “These conserved banana chips do not regenerate as much health as the raw fruit. However, the duration of their effect lasts longer — and the crunch is nice, too.”
