The Hunger boss fight in the Kolobos Ruins in Final Fantasy Resonance

Final Fantasy Resonance’s Kolobos Ruins culminate in a two-stage fight against The Hunger. Ice is effective against its first form, while Light works on the second; success depends on changing elements, keeping the party healthy, and holding Limit Bursts for the later phase.

Quick answer: Stagger phase 1 with Ice and finish it with Hibernal Fury. In phase 2, heal whenever a red “!” appears, use Fina’s Holy Ray on the group, then finish with Lasswell’s Null Moon.

Where to fight The Hunger

During Chapter 1, “Tailing the Truth”, The Hunger awaits as the final enemy in the Kolobos Ruins while your objective is “Go to the Kolobos Ruins”. Need directions to reach the area? Follow this route to the Kolobos Ruins.

The inner save circle, far inside the ruins, is your final opportunity to save. From there, head north through the arch to the lab of green tanks; entering it triggers a scene with Dr. Lazarov straight away. There is no door prompt or further save point before the fight. Use the save point at that inner circle, then choose Rest in a tent to replenish the party.

Dr. Lazarov’s scene starts as soon as you walk into the lab.

In the scene, Lazarov introduces himself with “The name’s Lazarov.” and explains what happened to Emma’s mother. He closes with “You’ll have to play with this instead.”, and the fight begins.

The Hunger’s two phases, weaknesses and stats

On NORMAL, Libra shows phase 1 as The Hunger, a Lv.9 Demon with 2,500 HP and a weakness to Ice. It resists five status ailments, has no traits, and drops a Potion.

Phase 1 ends without a Battle Result screen. Lazarov yells “I’ve got a reviving potion! Ploink!” and phase 2 starts right away. The target name changes to The Hunger v2, a Lv.10 Demon with 7,000 HP and a weakness to Light. Its trait reads “Summons allies when alone in battle.”, and it also drops a Potion.

Two gold Enhanced Wraith Soldiers, labelled A and B, join phase 2. Each is a Lv.9 Reaper with 650 HP, weak to both Light and Fire. When you aim Fina’s Shining Arrow, all three enemies show “Weak”.

What to buy before fighting The Hunger

Phase 2 drains healing items fast, and a party around Rain Lv.10, Lasswell Lv.10 and Fina Lv.9 that runs out of Potions can fall here. Stock up at the Felicitas item shop, at the top of the wooden ramp on the north side of town.

Mist Potion500 Gil“Restores 200 HP for all allies.”6
Phoenix Down200 Gil“Revives a KO’d ally with 25% HP.”10

You don’t need to walk back through the ruins after shopping. Fast travel to the Kolobos Ruins from the World Map, then use Teleport at the entrance save circle to jump to the inner circle.

How to beat The Hunger, step by step

Open phase 1 by hitting The Hunger’s Ice weakness with Rain’s Blizzard while Lasswell’s Banish and Fina’s Shining Arrow add damage. If HP drops, Lasswell’s Cure can target the whole party when you press Q for All. Keep going until its gauge breaks and it shows “STAGGERED”. If you’re unsure how breaking works, read up on how to stagger enemies.

After completing chain attacks on the staggered Hunger, the “SELECT RESONANCE” menu offers Hibernal Fury (W) and Healing Wind (A). Pick Hibernal Fury, whose description is “Deal Ice magic damage to random enemies 5 times.” Using it against the staggered boss can yield an Overkill Total of 791 and end phase 1 immediately.

During phase 2, keep an eye on the turn order bar along the screen’s top edge. One turn before a powerful enemy move, its icon turns red and shows a yellow “!”. Use a Mist Potion then, or give a Potion to the party member with the least HP. One attack with a warning can knock Fina out and leave Lasswell with 44 HP.

Keep hitting Light. Fina’s Shining Arrow and Lasswell’s Banish work on The Hunger v2 and both soldiers, and Rain’s Fire also works on the soldiers.

Bring up Limit Bursts with R and select Fina’s Holy Ray, described as “Deal Light magic damage to all enemies. Power scales with sanctity.” A single cast can take out both Enhanced Wraith Soldiers while staggering The Hunger v2. Then use chain attacks followed by Hibernal Fury.

Finish The Hunger v2 with Lasswell’s Limit Burst, Null Moon, which reads “Deal non-elemental physical damage to an enemy. Target is more easily staggered for 3 turns.” Once the boss is alone it calls in a new soldier, and Null Moon can bring The Hunger v2 down while that soldier is still standing.

The battle isn’t over until the last soldier falls. Stagger it with Rain’s Fire and Fina’s Shining Arrow, then finish it with Hibernal Fury. Played this way, the fight can be cleared on NORMAL without a single knockout.

The Hunger v2 flashes white as it casts Gravity. The move halves its target’s current HP: Rain goes from 589 to 295 in one cast, then from 656 to 328 in another. Bioblaster sends green bubbles across the party, dealing hits such as 190, 233 and 132—enough to knock Fina out.

After all its soldiers have fallen, The Hunger v2 casts Call For Help, bringing another Enhanced Wraith Soldier into the fight.

Slam can hit Fina for 237, Stone for 149, and Rake for 296. The soldiers’ Grand Slash hits the whole party for roughly 58 to 136 per character, and the soldiers also show the “!” on the turn order bar before using it.

What happens if the party falls

If everyone goes down, “The party has fallen…” appears with Retry, Load and Return to Title.

Retry restarts the whole fight from phase 1.

Choosing Retry displays “Retry this battle from the beginning?” and returns you to phase 1, not phase 2. Used items aren’t restored, so attempting again with an empty bag will likely end the same way. Load returns you to the save at the inner circle from before the Lazarov scene, giving you time to restock in Felicitas first.

Rewards for beating The Hunger

You’ll know the fight is over when the Battle Result screen appears after phase 2. It pays out:

  • EXP Gained: 650
  • Gil Obtained: 325, with “Overkill Bonus”
  • MRP Gained: 39, with “Stagger Finish Bonus”
  • Items Obtained: Potion x2
The Hunger Battle Result: 650 EXP, 325 Gil, 39 MRP, Potion x2

The EXP raises Rain and Lasswell from Lv.10 to Lv.11, and Fina from Lv.9 to Lv.10. Lazarov escapes after the battle. The story resumes in Felicitas with the objective “Find a ship in Grandport”, continued in the full walkthrough. Stats for every other boss are in the Final Fantasy Resonance bosses list.
