Dream of an Idealist is a Chapter 1 side quest in Final Fantasy Resonance that sends Rain between the capital, the Village of Kol, and the Earth Shrine to win back the squadron’s airship engineer, Scott. You finish it by showing Scott the old squadron banner, then beating Poison Flora for a key item called Dew of Reprieve and handing it over.
Quick answer: Accept it from the soldier by the plaza fountain in Grandshelt, the Royal Capital. Talk to Scott on the west side of the Village of Kol, examine the squadron banner just west of the save circle at the Earth Shrine entrance, and show it to Scott. Then beat Poison Flora (Lv.7, weak to Fire and Wind) at the north-east tip of the desert island for Dew of Reprieve, and hand it to Scott for Flamberge x1 and 500 Gil.
| Step | Where | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Grandshelt, the Royal Capital: soldier by the plaza fountain | Accept the quest and get Scott’s letter |
| 2 | Village of Kol: west side, by the tall cactus | Talk to Scott |
| 3 | Earth Shrine entrance: just west of the save circle, at the ledge edge | Stand on the marker and press F to Examine the squadron banner |
| 4 | Village of Kol: Scott, same spot | Show him the banner |
| 5 | North-east tip of the desert island, west end of the rope bridge | Beat Poison Flora for Dew of Reprieve |
| 6 | Village of Kol: Scott, same spot | Deliver the Dew of Reprieve |
How to start Dream of an Idealist
In Grandshelt, the Royal Capital, find a soldier marked with a blue “!” beside the plaza fountain outside the castle. Townsfolk are gathered around him.

Talking to him triggers a short scene. The townsfolk press Rain about the ruined airships, and Rain decides to visit Scott, the squadron’s airship engineer who helped him build the squadron in the first place. The soldier then reveals Scott left something behind: “Sir, about Scott…I actually have a letter addressed to you from him.” In the letter, Scott says he’s done with airships and is leaving Grandshelt for Kol.

After the scene, the “Dream of an Idealist QUEST ACCEPTED” banner appears. The rewards listed are Flamberge x1 and 500 Gil.

Add to Google Preferences →Talk to Scott in the Village of Kol
Make your way to the desert settlement, the Village of Kol. If it’s already unlocked, use fast travel to arrive at Kol’s eastern edge.
Scott is across the village, standing beside the tall cactus outside the house on the west side, with a blue marker above him. The F Talk prompt appears only when you stand directly beside him on his east, or right-hand, side; circle around him if it does not show.
Rain apologizes for the squadron’s losses and asks Scott to lend his engineering skills again. Scott shuts him down with “No. I can’t help you there.” and “You read my letter, didn’t you? I’ve no intention of working with your squadron anymore.” He walks away, and Rain resolves to recover something from the wrecked airship at the Earth Shrine.

The objective changes to “Search the Earth Shrine for something that will convince Scott”, and the game autosaves.

Squadron banner location at the Earth Shrine
The banner sits at the Earth Shrine entrance, before any of the dungeon proper. You don’t need to push through the Earth Shrine walkthrough or face Belmodar deeper inside to get it.

Rain recognizes the banner: “There it is… Blown all the way here.” Lasswell then identifies it: “That’s…the squadron banner…” Rain says he and Scott created it as a team, and hopes seeing it will bring back memories of what the squadron used to mean to Scott.

The objective changes to “Talk to Scott in the village of Kol”, and the game saves automatically.

Show Scott the squadron banner
Scott remains in western Kol, beneath the quest marker and a little north of the tall cactus. To bring up Talk, move right next to him on his eastern side, as before.

Rain presents the banner: “The airship might have been destroyed, but the heart and soul behind it still remain in the form of this banner.”

A sepia flashback in the castle hall follows, in which Scott asks Rain why he insists on saving everyone rather than choosing between one life or a hundred.

Back in Kol, Scott still turns him down with “So I can’t work with you any longer.” The real reason comes out: his eyesight is failing. Dew of Reprieve, which can halt certain illnesses, might help, but Lasswell warns that fighting the monster that yields it is no easy task. Rain settles it with “To the east of the desert, then. Let’s go find that monster.”
The objective becomes “Harvest Dew of Reprieve from a monster in the east of the desert”.

Poison Flora location and fight
Open the World Map with M and you’ll see a blue quest marker north-east of the Village of Kol, at the end of the rope bridge leading to the green island. Leave Kol through the east exit and head north-east across the sand.

The monster symbol is a large yellow flower with the quest marker floating above it. It sits on the north-east tip of the desert island, at the west end of the rope bridge. Walk into it, and Lasswell confirms it’s the target with “This appears to be the monster we’re looking for. It should yield Dew of Reprieve.” before the battle begins.

The target panel reads “Poison Flora Lv.7“. It has 1,200 HP and two weaknesses on its Affinities row: Fire and Wind. It uses Poison attacks and poisoned Rain during the fight. A party at Lv.10 to Lv.11 beat it with plain attacks in about five turns on Normal.

The Battle Result screen pays out 100 EXP, 120 Gil, 15 MRP, and Potion x1.

After the fight, Rain says “So this is Dew of Reprieve…” and the objective updates to “Deliver the Dew of Reprieve to Scott in the village of Kol”, followed by an autosave. Dew of Reprieve goes into your key items, described as “A rare liquid that can be obtained from a monster. Said to halt the progress of various illnesses.”

The Sanctum of Light is on that island, at the base of the cliff north-west of Kol.
Deliver the Dew of Reprieve to Scott
Go back to western Kol and speak with Scott. Rain hands him the item, saying, “It’s Dew of Reprieve. It can stop the progress of certain illnesses.” He also asks Scott to oversee the airship squadron’s reconstruction, explaining that the soldiers need him.

Scott pushes back one last time: “What you’re saying is unrealistic. It’s an idealist’s pipe dream…” Rain replies that he’ll never give up on his ideals, “Not now, not ever.”

Dream of an Idealist rewards
You’ll know the quest is done when the “Dream of an Idealist QUEST COMPLETED” banner appears.

Next comes “You obtained the following: Flamberge x1, 500”, where the 500 is Gil. Flamberge is one of the game’s greatswords.
