How to Get Out of the Corpse Pit by the Forest Outpost in Phantom Blade Zero (Crimson Forest)

The cave is a dead end. A scratch mark on the pale rock shelf gets Soul back up to the low road.

Quick answer: The cave at the far end of the pit is a dead end, so skip it. Go to the rock shelf with a big crossed scratch mark (an X) on the wall and press Space at the mark. Soul wall-runs back up to the low road.

Where the corpse pit is

The pit sits directly below the low road that runs under the Forest Outpost in Crimson Forest, beside a wooden house raised on stilts. If you step off the wrong edge of the low road, you fall roughly 8 metres into it.

The floor of the pit is covered in bodies, skeletons, broken spears and a dead horse. Wooden stakes stick up among the remains. The walls are steep rock hung with red vines, so the pit looks like it has several possible ways out. The one that takes you back up is a wall-run at a marked spot.

How to get out of the corpse pit

Leave the vine-covered walls alone. A wall-run against that rock only lifts Soul onto a small ledge about 3 metres up, and the route ends there.
Don’t use the dark cave mouth at the far end of the pit floor, where the dead horse lies. It looks like an exit, but a few steps inside the opening Soul stops walking, and there is nothing to interact with. Turn around.

Walk back across the pit floor, away from the cave, to the end of the pit below the low road. The ground rises there onto a rock shelf against a pale rock wall. Find the big crossed scratch mark (an X) on that wall. It works like the game’s other climbing spots.
Stand right under the X until the “Space” prompt appears on the mark, then press Space. Soul runs up the wall.

You know it worked when Soul comes out on the low road next to the wooden house on stilts, which is the spot you fell from.

Where the low road goes from the stilt house

A short walk along the low road from the stilt house brings you to a locked double gate. When you interact with it, the game shows “Key item missing” along with “FOREST OUTPOST COURTYARD KEY * 1”. The gate stays shut until you have that key, which lies in a house at the top of the wooden stairs in the Forest Outpost village (see where to find the Forest Outpost Courtyard Key). Past the gate is the Red Serpent House bell.

In the other direction, the low road leads to stone steps that climb up to the stone-walled village path above. The steps work in both directions, so the low road also links back up to the village path.

Other ways out of the corpse pit

If the wall-run still won’t work, a Traversal Talisman takes you straight to any bell you have already rung. Dying also sends you back to your last bell.
