Quick answer: Jing Ye, the Outlaw waits on the upper stream path about 60 metres east of the Outlaw Trap bell in Crimson Forest, beside a large boulder with a dead horse lying at its foot.

Jing Ye, the Outlaw is a boss in Phantom Blade Zero’s Crimson Forest. The bell nearest to him is Outlaw Trap, the second bell in the region. The route from that bell is short, but it isn’t a straight walk. You drop into a walled pit east of the bell, wall-run twice to reach the upper level, and then follow a stream east to his boulder.

How to reach Jing Ye from the Outlaw Trap bell

Rest at the Outlaw Trap bell in Crimson Forest, or travel to it. The bell shows an “E” prompt when you stand next to it. You can read more about how bells work in Phantom Blade Zero.

Face east from the bell. A sunken pit lies nearby, bordered by a low dry-stone wall topped with sharpened wooden stakes. Drop from the edge into the pit.

Landing in the pit can hurt: on Pathbreaker one landing took 500 of 892 HP, while another drop at the pit edge cost nothing. If the fall hurts you, heal with R before you carry on to the boss.

Make your way across the pit to the rock face opposite. Look for the “Space” prompt at the wall, then hit Space to wall-run onto the ledge.

Follow the ledge to a second, taller rock face. Press Space when its prompt appears to wall-run to the upper level on the bell’s east side.

Trees and red leaves cover the upper slope, with an abandoned cart axle and two wheels beneath them. From there, head east along the shallow stream. Avoid the rocky incline to the south; it leads nowhere.

Follow the stream until you reach a large grey boulder, with a dead horse next to it. Jing Ye, the Outlaw is there, roughly 60 metres east of the bell in a straight line.

What happens when you reach the boulder

The fight begins when you walk up to the boulder. The boss bar “JING YE, THE OUTLAW” appears at the top of the screen. At the same moment, a tutorial box appears with the line “Press 1 to switch weapons and fully restore Sha-Chi!” The 1 key swaps you to your other weapon, and the tutorial is pointing out that the swap also refills Sha-Chi. You can read more about how to switch weapons.

On Pathbreaker, his attacks come in fast multi-hit flurries. A character at full health can go down in under a minute. Arrive with full health and every healing charge.
