Town of Death Quest Walkthrough in Phantom Blade Zero: All Steps and Rewards

Quick answer: Reach central Pangzhen and beat Blaze, take the Crimson Flesh Lily, open the hidden floor in the Order’s tavern courtyard to meet Myst, then follow the tavern passage to the red double door.

Town of Death steps at a glance

Arrive in Pangzhen

The quest begins when you reach the Hidden Storehouse bell in Pangzhen. The objective “Enter the central area of Pangzhen” appears there. The route into town and the second bell, the Abandoned Wine Cellar, are covered in the guide on how to get to Pangzhen.

Beat Blaze in the central area

Stepping into the central area triggers a short cutscene. A young girl named Yu’er appears in the street, Blaze shows up, and the fight starts right away. His first phase is “Blaze, Shadow Warden Captain” with 48,560 HP. His second phase is “Blaze, Phosphor Consciousness” with 60,700 HP.

Death sends you back to the bell at South Gate Bridge. For details on his moves and how to counter them, see the Blaze boss fight guide. Defeating him grants the Fire Meteor Phantom Edge.

Pick up the Crimson Flesh Lily

After Blaze is defeated, look for the glowing red flower Yu’er left behind, lying in the street near the battle’s endpoint. Press E to collect it. Its item card shows the name “CRIMSON FLESH LILY”, identifies it as a Story Item, and gives the text “Yu’er dropped this Flesh Lily. Its petals are as bright as blood, reeking of decay.”

Soul wonders aloud whether this is the Flesh Lily Yu’er mentioned, and recalls that her father brews for the town and likely lives on the back streets. The quest log then updates to “Find a way to the backstreet”. The story behind the flower is in the Flesh Lily tale.

Get into the Order’s underground tavern

The tavern is a spacious hall with two floors; stone lion statues flank the front steps. The Marketplace bell is the nearest one, roughly 75 m away from the steps. On arrival, Soul spots a pair of green lanterns glowing without flame and recognizes the building as the Order’s tavern. This triggers the objective “Enter the Order’s underground tavern”.

Cavalrybane, an Elite Shadow Warden with 62,900 HP, and two spearmen on horseback protect the street approaching the tavern gate. You can skip this encounter: he only awakens when you enter his stretch of road, and the quest never asks you to defeat him.

Enter the gate and head into the courtyard, where wine jars and racks surround a pavilion. No enemies are present.

At the pavilion stairway, pull the lion-head ring mounted in the stone post. This causes the pavilion floor to open.

Drop down into the brazier room. On the red altar table, collect “Polished Forged Metal + 7”.

Follow the room to the stone gate where Myst is waiting. Rest at Myst’s Tavern bell inside.

Myst provides Soul Tempering, starts the Illusory Pipa side quest, and combines the two fragments into the Remnant Spark Cube. The guide to entering the Order’s underground tavern shows this section in pictures.

Through South Town Pond to the red door

On the tavern route, the South Town Pond bell stands by a red-cloth cross, a lotus pond and an arched stone bridge. Three Shadow Wardens occupy the lantern courtyard farther along, and more enemies await on the raised path. Start with full health and all your gourds. Open the chest beside the South Town Pond bell for Concentrated Solvent, Otherworldly Copper, Camphor Timber and Remnant Dust. Ring the bell and rest.

Go up the extended stairs running alongside the retaining wall, then cross the yard. Follow the boardwalk beneath the stilt houses to enter the lantern courtyard.

Kill the twin-bladed Wildfire Shadow Warden first, since he charges in ahead of the others. Then deal with the rest of the courtyard.

Check the quest log before approaching the door. If Old Man Gen’s The Journey Home still requires you to report back about the Smuggler’s Tunnel, go to the Village of Lu and speak with him first.

Go over the wooden bridge with railings beyond the courtyard. At the red double door, press E; lion-head knockers are fitted to it.

Walk into the dark corridor behind the door to end the chapter.

The screen fades to “TOWN OF DEATH” “END OF CHAPTER”, and the achievement “Into the Deadly Trap” unlocks, with the text “Visit the Order’s Tavern”. You then appear in the backstreet by the Backstreet Archway bell, and The Heart’s Trail begins with “Visit Yu’er’s home in the backstreets of Pangzhen”.
