Dressing up your survivor or giving Michael Myers a new look in Halloween: The Game means grinding through the game’s progression systems. There is no store to buy most items with real money, so nearly every outfit, hairstyle, pair of glasses, makeup or blemish, and killer skin comes from playing matches, clearing challenges, and prestiging your account.
Quick answer: Cosmetics unlock through one of four tracks — Profile Level, Chapter Challenges in Michael’s Story, a character’s own Progressive Challenge Collection, or Prestige ranks. A small set of items is locked to the Digital Deluxe Edition and never unlocks through play.
The four ways cosmetics unlock
Before chasing a specific look, it helps to know which system feeds it. Four separate level tracks run in the background: Profile Level (your combined experience across every role), Killer Level (playing as Michael), Civilian Level (per individual survivor), and Weapon Level (kills with a specific weapon as Michael). Raising any of them opens new challenge tiers and cosmetic rewards, and hitting a cap lets you Prestige for higher-tier items.

Characters you need to unlock first
You cannot equip a cosmetic on a survivor you have not unlocked yet. Michael Myers and four Civilians are available from the start, five more open through Profile Level, and three are exclusive to the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Michael Myers killer skins
Michael’s eight skins come from a mix of purchase type, story completion, and Prestige progress. The 1978 look is his default, while Phantom and Inmate depend on how you bought the game. Ghost requires clearing every Chapter Challenge in Michael’s Story, which spans the Prologue through Chapter 5.

Profile Prestige Level 1 means taking your account to Level 100 and then prestiging. Michael Myers Prestige Level 1 works the same way, but it tracks your Killer Level instead of your overall Profile Level.

Annie Bracket, Bob Simms, and Lynda Van Der Klok
These three follow the same template as the survivors above. Their extra hairstyles come from their Progressive Challenge Collections and Chapter Challenges; their glasses mix Profile Level milestones, progression challenges, Tier 2 of a Passive Challenge, a Chapter Challenge, and Prestige Level 5; and their makeup or blemish pieces mix Profile Level, a progression challenge, character Level 10, Tier 4 of a Passive Challenge, and Prestige Level 4. Bob uses blemishes, while Annie and Lynda use makeup.
What only the Digital Deluxe Edition unlocks
A specific slice of content never appears as earnable, no matter how far you level. The Phantom Michael Myers skin comes with any pre-order, while the Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Inmate Michael Myers skin, Laurie’s Final Girl Outfit, the Laurie Strode, Richard Hawthorne, and Alexis Purcell characters, and early access ahead of the standard launch.
How to check an unlock worked
Open the Customize menu for the relevant Civilian, or for Michael, and look at the cosmetic slot. Once you meet a condition, the outfit, skin, hair, glasses, makeup, or blemish entry becomes selectable instead of showing its locked requirement.
If an item still reads as locked after you have leveled up and cleared the listed challenge, check whether it is an edition-exclusive piece first. Those items never unlock through gameplay, so no amount of grinding will turn them on.
